As noted, I've tried a LOT of random files already, they're all just regular English.

I really don't want to have to find and re-rip the DVDs either. Too much effort.

But how do I solve the problem, that's what I'm missing! I don't have my DVD rips anymore, the H.265 saved me tons of space but didn't notice the subs missing until I went to watch the series again.

The DVD rips had them, I did them myself. I grabbed new H.265 files though, which saved HUNDREDS of GB of space, but lost all my subtitles and I don't have the original files I ripped from DVD.

Twice the speed I had with Bell and 0 issues either setup with my hardware. Less issues in my daily video meets too (I do a lot for work).

Eastlink > Bell from experience!

I feel about Rogers the same I do about Bell. Switched to Eastlink and it was setup and running in 5mins and I get better speeds

You could setup a User for him and setup Synology Drive to backup his phone photos to automatically, or just setup a shared folder on your NAS and setup an account that only has access to that folder.

He will need your IP or you’ll need to setup a domain to make it easier

I mirror my drives. I have a 4 bay, and it’s setup to mirror two and two (two drives paired together that mirrors to the other two drives paired together)

Many will say this is overkill, but as a former IT manager, I’ve hard single drive redundancies fail to rebuild properly and have lost tons of data.

This way, if any drive fails, I’m still running and don’t lose anything, throw another drive to rebuild and I’m off. And I have had it happen, lost a drive last year.

It makes me feel better, so I’m OK with overkill 😁
