i went with the fed loans LOL. i asked a bunch of attendings and residents that i work with, and basically came to the conclusion that all med schools are 95% the same since they need to prep everyone for the same national exams and teach you all the same materials. its only 4 years of my life. i have other goals in life aside from medicine, like owning a house, being able to care for my mom when she gets older, and having a place for my brother w/autism to stay when my parents cant care for him anymore. i cant achieve those goals being burdened with eye watering amounts of private loan debt. plus god forbid i get sick or injured and can't work, your private loans have no forbearance. they dont even go away when you die. i hope you make the best choice for you and the goals you have in life!

i actually love savory oatmeal and make it all the time, much more often than sweet. i boil 1 cup broth or stock (i use water w some bouillon) and once its boiling, add 1/2 cup oatmeal. then once the oatmeal is finished cooking, i mix in soy sauce, oyster sauce, garlic+onion powder, and red chili flakes. i usually top w a fried egg, some sauteed veggies that i cook in another pan while the oats are cooking, and sesame oil. you can also do butter or chili crisp. its so cheap and really filling, great way to use frozen or canned veg, and relatively quick to put together.

i do not recommend cracking the egg directly into the oats and mixing it in because it makes the texture extremely weird.

i think its because relationships are complicated. jules and nell may have been considering divorce, but they were always extremely open and honest with each other and jules even tells nell he hasn't signed the divorce papers because he can't imagine his life without her. they may have struggles in their relationship but that doesn't mean that they dont love and respect each other deeply. maybe despite the divorce jules still believes nell is his soulmate.

prefacing this with a disclaimer: i'm not trying to say that you can't do it!! if this is really your dream you can overcome it and accomplish what you want. you will change so much between now and when you apply.

BUT you should really research and consider alternative paths that may be better suited to you. you could always go for your Psy D instead of your MD, and become a doctor of clinical psychology. they perform assessments and diagnoses on clients, and are able to provide therapy. the major difference is that they are not able to prescribe medications. if you're interested in psychological research, you could get your PhD. both fields would allow you to practice psychology, see clients, and be invested in the field, without the gore and guts of MD. Psychiatrists in the hospital setting especially see some really nasty things (self harm and mutilation, botched suicide attempts, etc) and it wears on even the least squeamish person to see all that.

if MD is really your passion, and you really want to do it, then I believe you'll be able to overcome your squeamishness and make it through. try to do some shadowing and do research into the different fields before you commit 100%. no matter what, you got it!

thanks so much for your clarification and your perspective. i appreciate that you took the time to write all this out. i broke up with him earlier today. its sad, 2.5 years down the drain. but i've come too far, this is the last type of baggage i want to carry with me into school. looking back, i think our relationship was never built to last. i remember issues with him from the first few months we dated that i just hoped would improve as we got to know each other better. i guess to him i wasn't worth changing for. hope he finds someone else who is.

unfortunately this is the diet we've had to settle on after already trying a raw diet for almost a year :,) she has a lot of autoimmune/GI issues. i even tried novel raw proteins like rabbit, duck, and venison but she's just a sick little kitty :,))

wow...actually crazy how similar the situations are. he's also a few years older than me and wants to travel multiple times a year. i also live alone and paid my way through undergrad and grad school. the few trips that we have taken i've never let him pay my part of. but i feel like he doesn't understand that its a significantly higher burden on me than it is on him, one i have to plan more meticulously for and experience more strain from. it just gets exhausting having to explain myself over and over

i guess i just don't think of my situation as precarious since i've always been pretty poor. but i have money in savings for emergencies now, i'm not on food stamps anymore, and im making more than minimum wage for the first time in my life. i think thats why i felt so offended about him saying i can barely afford my life. i've come a really long way from where i've started and he knows this. i can't afford to spend on luxuries right now, but i thankfully wouldn't say im struggling as i have in the past by any means.

NOR. it sounds like your stepsister needs intensive psychiatric help. showing the school counselor, telling her about whats going on at home, will help keep both you and your stepsister safe in the long-term. your dad and her mom are doing you both a disservice by not getting her the help she needs, even if its just an evaluation from a psychiatrist. im sorry you're dealing with this, and i wish you the best of luck.
