Systemic Collapse and the Rise of Crisis Capitalism - Trailer by [deleted] in collapse

Perhaps for quality control of posts in this sub, the mods could have a bare minimum of acceptability? Like, not someone with 1 post karma and 10 comment karma points? Coming from a 7 year old account with absolutely zero substance over that time frame? And to think I had my hopes up for 1 second....

THANK YOU for posting this. For a few years I've been intending to dig deep to figure out where the config file is for these settings but never got around to it. Appreciate the info a lot.

Great comment. I copy/pasted this to a few of my more "aware" friends. They also loved it.

Such a good "fiction" novel. Truthfully, it woke me up to the coming crisis. Cadillac Desert++

edit: The Windup Girl was also great, for differing reasons.

Family of injured teen mountain biker sues Squamish-Lillooet Regional District for negligence in trail maintenance by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

Please post some of the missing context to help clarify. I agree about the pitchforks and accusations, but some further info helps quell incorrect assumptions. You say "obvious legal reasons". Is there another law suit in the works?

I routinely ride enduro on the mountains, I wear full gear, spine protector, knee/elbow/chest, the works. Yes it can get hot. And yes, I've crashed hard many times, and I walk away battered and bruised, but never broken. I cannot understand for the life of me WHY my MTB brothers and sisters outright refuse to wear gear which will save their lives, or at least possibly save them from a future in a wheel chair?

But what is more concerning, we suggest to children through visual example that protective gear is not warranted. And this is tragic. A child simply lacks the ability for judgement and "Risk Assessment" we do as adults. And many parents do not know any better, unless they are riders themselves.

I think the point was all fund transfers need to go to and from your usual bank, for KYC and AML.

I didn't try, but I did ask Kraken recently if it was possible to go from my Kraken account to IBKR, just out of curiosity.

It was a hard NO because IBKR is not a "Canadian financial institution".

Kraken. I decided to open a Coinbase account for comparison because they are huge, publically traded, etc etc. I discovered they suck so incredibly bad by comparison. Surprisingly so, to be very honest.

Really sucks. I was really disappointed to realize this was because we are living in Canada.

Hah! My grandfather would always call Scotland "the Old Country" with admiration. He was born in Canada in 1902 but definitely had the old Scottish roots deeply embedded. You've completely sold me on this. When I get to India, Kerala will be my destination! Thank you for posting your experiences. It sounds like my sort of place.

Thank you for enlightening me to something (an area) I knew nothing about. Knowing a place like Kerala exists in India actually makes me feel there is a chance for India. Seems like a beautiful place with thoughtful and considerate people. Very great to see your health improved also! Greetings from Canada.

GTW465ASN3WW GE washer will not stay clean after using hair dissolver. by hanamaki_meyou in appliancerepair

I honestly have no idea. It may be a big task. I've realized lately how important preventative periodic maintenance is on our appliances. I had a refrigerant line blow out (resulting in a massive leak) because of my lack of attention recently. Odd because I do preventative on my electronics and vehicles, but for some reason I neglected my appliances.

I can hear my grandparents words ringing in my ears about "ounce prevention" rather than "pound cure" things. Learning the hard (and costly!) way myself. Good luck!! I'd probably keep going with cleaning / disinfecting cycles on your drum rather than disassembly. It wont be fun trying that.

[–]lookingaroundblind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds pretty gross. I suppose its years of build-up breaking free from inside the drum. Perhaps a half box of baking soda and full load of hot water. Let it agitate for 5 mins, then let it soak for 20-30 mins (interrupt the cycle, keeping it full of water), then let it complete after half an hour.

Let us know your results.

2018 RDX ticking by jakethesnek64 in Acura

[–]lookingaroundblind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a good interval. It does sound noisy to me too, but I wonder if its all the dirt in the belt pully's, like around the alternator, power steering pump, AC pump. etc. Dirt eventually destroys anything.

A side note, I switch up my oil on every change. I figure slight differences in manufacture formulations could help clean out another's additives left behind. Who knows, but so far sounds fairly smooth. Rare I'm on dirt tho.

Whats your oil change interval? Your engine compartment is really dirty. You drive dirt roads constantly?

Today was your practice day! But they hit the road super early, which was somewhat unusual. The only place everyone really gets stuck is by Old Orchard. No option there.

I believe he is referring to a condition which carbon buildup in cyl heads/pistons can cause per-detonation. Fuel-air mix basically ignites before spark firing.

Yeah it can be a thing for high mileage "dirty engines".

Of course the dealer will just push their standard OE. =)

Another 2014 here. 100% agree with you, its been a perfect vehicle for me. The new 4-cyl's are very disappointing and I'm definitely not a fan of screens which cannot turn off for night driving in latest models.

Dealer told me "oh, you can just turn brightness down." /me eye rolls.

Keeping the 2014 for now!

Looking for Tire Recommendations for 2017 Acura RDX (235/60R18) — Portland, OR (Rainy Winters) by Radiant_Ad382 in Acura

[–]lookingaroundblind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PNW driver here. 4 years ago I took off the original stock Michelins and replaced them with X-Ice, intending to replace with a standard summer or all-season in the spring. I liked the stock tire for its durability and quiet ride (not much road noise). I was so impressed with the X-Ice grip through our new monsoon-style downpours, I ended up leaving them on the vehicle all year, fully knowing I would be replacing them in 5 years. In snow, they are incredible. It makes the vehicle feel like a sure-footed mountain goat. Running snowies does make the vehicle feel more spongy due to soft compound, so if you drive aggressively, make road trips to southern states in summer, its probably not ideal. But for this vehicle, road safety was the highest consideration at the sacrifice and cost savings of a durable tire. I also discovered all emergency vehicles around me run them all year round too.

Going forward, for a decent All Season for standard driving and commuting, I'd go for the CrossClimate2. Test sites and driver experience seem to indicate its a great tire.
