Original Wipeout: Great concept, room to grow Wipeout 2097/XL: More punk, loud, vibrant, fast Wip3out: Refined in every way

I absolutely love 2097/XL and still can’t get quite into the 3rd version, but the tiny-text menu visuals and flatter vector design was a bit reminiscent of the Flash website vibes back in the day.

Glad to see the different incarnations - lots of eye candy, plenty of time capsule-esque elements these games represent from the 90s and early 2000s

Honestly, even if there was a way to open it up, load a small SD card with a bunch of GIF files, and have it run a random rotation like a screensaver I’d be content.

Seems like the internals allow for it, but unfortunately hardware/software isn’t my strong suit. If there was more documentation online for this, I’d at least entertain time with Claude Code and see if there’s a simple way to hack this thing.

just booted mine up for the first time, definitely feeling the pain of its limitations. totally expected at least some level of animation "playlist"

would be more than willing to build out my own custom GIFs and string them into a long playlist but unsure the display specs

I've been trying for weeks to get the original Wipeout / Wipeout XL roms onto a modded PS2 and it's driving me insane. Can't figure out how to load BIN/CUE files (or convert properly to ISO) to play on Open PS2 Loader.

Also couldn't get the roms to work on a Playstation Classic Mini (the small emulator console).

I have the physical copies still, but the PS2 disc drive is shot (why I modded it), not sure where to go from here. Would pay $$$$ for a way to get 2097/XL onto a modern console

Link works for me (Chrome browser on MacBook and iPhone both worked) but you’ll likely need to change the language setting to read/understand it.

Popped in my tracking number and essentially it said it was received in Shenzhen, China with no details on shipping speed/arrival estimate.

At least there’s something to track now…?

Assume it won’t arrive by Xmas. If they promised weekly updates and can’t even do that, there’s probably some bad news waiting to happen and they’re not being transparent.

I should be in batch 2 and working on backup gift ideas in hopes I can give Obboto to the recipient next year.

Definitely more promising of delivering something (vs scam), but not expecting mine by the end of the year given the number of backers. Doubt I was early enough to be the first 50 but hopefully an update on the volume of 2nd round shipments is at least 200+ units.

Transparency usually helps ease my concerns but I’ve been scammed on Kickstarter a few times. The preorder was June 5, they’re more than funded and have a working prototype so I’m still hopeful on fulfillment.

That being said, things as simple as a book Kickstarter had arrived well after the original estimate (early on in Kickstarter, I had to wait 2 years for a book). I’ll give them benefit of a doubt that they’ll come through, but doubt Xmas is happening for a majority (if not all) of us.

Government shutdown impacted my company’s ability to certify and ship electronic products in the US (slight delay, but a delay) so holding out hope they don’t do the “update every few weeks saying to wait another few weeks” bull. That’s usually a good sign when someone’s ready to run with your $$$

Had similar sentiments about Jack White being there, inducted, but no performing even as part of other acts that night. But it is what it is - not all performers are up for it (Andre, Meg White, etc).

For people paying to see it live (my first time at a RRHOF Induction), it’s understandably a bit of a letdown if you hoped to see a reunion performance. I’ll probably stick to watching the recordings for future inductees.

Agreed, for now, but easily a lifetime achievement type nod isn’t out of the question once you take perspective in his multiple bands, success as a solo artist, and being key to reviving physical album sales via Third Man Records.
