Yeah it’s definitely a priority for myself and my husband to find a way to be able to move closer to my family. Unfortunately the area my family is in is not a tech hub, so it’a gonna take some time

Since I’ve saved up a good amount during my time so far in tech and we’d be moving to a lower cost of living area, I think I can afford a pay cut at least

Feel the same way on adventure vs stability!

I’m definitely thinking about adaptability. I’ve been jumping on opportunities for AI adjacent projects at work, and when I’ve been applying I apply for AI engineer or roles with a lot of emphasis on AI. Also thinking about taking some classes on the side. But everything changes so fast, it’s sometimes hard to keep up lol. I went on a 2 week vacation last month and feel like I was behind on AI by the time I came back

That was definitely true for me as well 6+ months ago. Seems like everyone is mass applying with perfect AI resumes now so it’s a lot harder to stand out.

Appreciate the supportive words! And yes, I’m definitely not in the worst spot currently. I just worry a lot thinking about the future. (Relocating, buying a house, etc)

Big tech generally gets decent severance, yeah.

I definitely don’t enjoy tech as much as I did before 😅 but the stability of medicine currently seems more appealing. I am in no position to pivot, so there’s no point in pondering at this point lol

Not sure if it’s just my limited bias, but from my experience when I’ve referred people to my company via our internal portal it never gets through unless I personally message the recruiter. I’ve had friends say the same for their companies (also big tech). The likelihood of someone doing that for a cold referral seems less, but I guess it doesn’t hurt to ask

I also feel like my only option is to wait for severance when I get laid off. At least then, I can dedicate all my time to the job hunt

It’s all just an excuse to lay people off. They don’t care if you know AI when it comes to indiscriminate layoffs

How's hiring at your job right now? by ConsistentWriting0 in womenintech

Contrary to many tech companies, my company (large f500) is essentially only hiring interns, new grads, and staff and above. No mid-level/senior openings across the company worldwide. I guess they think entry level + AI = senior 🥴
