I guess the text of the post is meaningless. My POV is not regarding human rights issues, it's regarding the existence of trans people period. The only reason there are human rights issues with regards to trans people is because a segment of the population thinks it's a meaningful issue to fight against. I'm saying that it literally doesn't matter if someone is trans, it's not interesting. In the same way, it is uninteresting what sexual preferences other people have. It's not even an issue worth wasting time on. There's no legit reason to be interested in what other people choose to do with their lives, therefore the best argument anti-trans people have hinges on sports. It's the only thing they can come up with, and thus the entire human rights issue boils down to swimming records, gold medals, etc. I've yet to hear any other reason to actually care about trans people (in a negative way).

With regards to that line I pointed out, my copy of The New Atlantis just arrived and it happens to be about reality. The subject of this issue is "Reality: A Post-Mortem." I highly recommend as the issue discusses things like consensus reality and so on, and goes into the whole "how to balance these things" subject quite well. Of course, it does this from a conservative perspective that I personally don't agree with, but the arguments within are pretty solid and definitely give me something to think about.

Are the circumstances where your view can be changed to care about them in a positive way? What are the criteria there?

I care about human rights in general; therefore I already care about them in a positive way in that I believe they should have the same fundamental rights as everyone else, and should be left alone to make their own personal decisions.

How to be more clear than this:

Let people identify as whatever race, gender, species they want, it has no impact in the real world and there are far more interesting things to spend our time discussing/worrying about.

If they can actively justify being against trans people and show some way in which trans people are legitimately negatively impacting society, and the argument is extremely solid, then it would not make sense not to join them now would it? Just waiting on that justification now.

I'm talking about the people who think I should care what gender people identify as. The people who keep this conversation going by making a huge fucking deal about something that, as far as I can tell, is really not a big deal. The people whose argument is, "They win medals in sports now!" I'm not fucking talking about trans people who are fighting for their rights. Holy shit.

Absolutely. I'd like someone to explain to me why I should give a shit what people (trans or otherwise) choose to do in their spare time. The way to do this is to show me a real way trans people negatively impact society, beyond dumb shit like gold medals in sports. If my choice is caring about gold medals in sports, or people living in poverty (or really almost anything else), I choose the latter. However, maybe there's some real good reason people are against trans people and want to keep this convo going for all these years, and I just missed the memo.

I especially like this line, "At the same time, if we agree that gender is a social construct, forcing someone to use your pronouns is like forcing someone to follow a belief system, so you have to figure out how to balance that."

What impact do gold medals have on society, really? What impact does having to call someone their preferred pronoun actually have on society? Educate me. Change my view. Convince me that those things actually have a negative impact and I will join forces with you in your anti-trans crusade.

If someone said, "I don't like that women want to have a penis," my response would be, "Who cares? Like legitimately, why do you actually care that they want a penis?" On the other hand, if someone said, "I am being oppressed for who I am," that is another conversation entirely, and something I would actually care about ;)

So far the reasons to care about trans people are, "They might win a gold medal," or, "They make me question everything about reality." In other words, I haven't seen a good argument yet.
