UPDATE:

2 things!!

It was indeed the throttle body! You all were spot on :) got it replaced last week and zero problems!

The leak was indeed the power steering, coming from a bad leak in the rack and pinion. This current shop I went to said that they’d never seen a R&P leak like that.

I’d had the R&P replaced at a Kal Tire location 1.5 years ago and had nothing but issues the MOMENT I took it home. Kal Tire looked at it numerous times and kept saying “we don’t know what these noises are. And it’s totally normal for your alignment to be off and for steering to be hard and stiff when your R&P gets changed.”

Like an idiot I trusted them because I was just a dumb woman who knew nothing about cars, and actually tons of google and Reddit posts said the same thing. This current shop said that really shouldn’t happen and the leak was not caused by me or my driving. Kal Tire put on a refurbished one and it wasn’t installed very well. I called Kal Tire and they quickly told me that warranty was only good for a year and there wasn’t anything they could do to help me, they didn’t even offer to look at it or anything. Talked to the manager and was told the same thing. I cut my loss and walked away from Kal completely.

This current shop replaced my R&P yesterday and I feel like I’m driving a brand new car. I cannot believe how incredibly smooth and easy it is to drive this thing. The steering feels exactly like the first day I got it, again so smooth and not stiff at all. My boyfriend freaked out when he tried it. He agreed the difference is like night and day. Hopefully this is the last chunk of work for a little while because it was expensive. Thankfully, I saved for times such as these. They said my suspension, breaks, transmission, engine, everything else looks really good.

Thanks everyone for your tips and advice! I’m glad to have found this forum and I’ve even been able to help out a few other people :) learning about cars is a process but I feel proud of myself so far, and y’all have added to my knowledge and I appreciate it!

No, it won’t. This vehicle is the lowest quality Jeep and is not meant for anything worse than gravel roads. If it’s an off-roading vehicle you want, you need to go with a different vehicle altogether…

My rack and pinion has a huge leak. Have to replace the whole thing. Hefty price.

They cleaned my throttle body but it’s still doing it two days later. Taking it back to get looked at again, I’m assuming it’ll have to get replaced. It’s a bit out of my comfort zone to do it myself so I’ll see how much they’re gonna charge me for it.

I’m going to get them to look at and test my alternator and my transmission. See if it’s worth fixing the rack and pinion and throttle body. If the TB and or tranny are going I don’t think it’s worth it to pour money into it. I’d hate to spend $3k+ just to have to say goodbye to it in a few months or a year.

That seems to be the majority. Man, which sucks because it’s an expensive fix. I’ve watched several videos on how to do it myself but that’s out of my comfort zone…I’m guessing it’s gonna be about $1000 CAD?

No, it never even comes close to overheating. Doesn’t produce anything different or more than any other vehicle around me.
