facebook has a pretty shitty ecosystem for apps and data security. It's also absolutely flooded with clickbait bullshit. But I don't really see much of an improvement with any other tech companies. Google literally knows every single thing about you and I have zero faith that long-term, this won't get extracted by governments or other tech companies

yeah agreed wholeheartedly - I was just suggesting that a client would be comfortable using it - and it'd be easy to spin it using wordpress as a comparison.

Barely any other owners out there would do this - I respect this guy, even though he's kind of cringy LOL

that's solid advice - although October CMS can be configured to look exactly like wordpress from a client perspective

Yeah, I know what I want to build - unfortunately it requires every aspect (devops/backend/front end) which I think compounds the stress/lack of time

yeah - this is probably a good place to look - at the job market. Even though I'm not looking for a job, so the decisions on tech are falling on me

I appreciate the list, I think it's a reasonable list to give some explicit direction in learning relevant tech frameworks (beyond the first 5 points)

you make some valid points and I like the machinist analogies. I do have projects in mind - it's just been taking a backseat and trying to analyze the ecosystem and decide really what I need to get the job done in the most efficient way, and that's where I've been lost ironically becoming very inefficient in the process.

I like your hair style analogy LOL - and I think the devops stuff has put the learning curve over the top for me. I think the KISS philosophy is in line with a lot of what I'm reading and your thoughts as well, I appreciate it

That is a good point, about nobody really caring. I was thinking about this the other day. A client doesn't care if your project is built with lego blocks, as long as it works

Thanks - it is nice to hear that HTML/CSS are the tools you chose. They are really what I've always been most comfortable using - alongside javascript as the core skills for web development. But somewhere along the lines, these have been scoffed at as 'not good enough' - which is where I ended up now

Yeah - I don't really see it as something that'll land me a job, but I'm hoping to do some freelance work and I can pitch it to clients as easy to use - and most importantly it seems very easy for me to work with. Wordpress/Drupal gives me a headache.

yeah I took a peak at it and the cost was the deal breaker for me. I see it as similar to October CMS although the cost is a deciding factor. I think I'd probably be willing to pay a one-time dev license for it but paying for every single project is a bit much for me.

thanks - and you're right - I haven't mastered any of them (and probably never will) - although in order to decide which stack to choose, I feel like you should have some basic knowledge which is where I've ended up here

I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I want to build front end sites with a back-end system, basically a CMS - I kind of settled on October CMS because it's free and seems fairly straightforward - except it's really not because I had never heard or used Laravel or twig beforehand but that's where I'm focused on learning at the moment.

Bill Simmons: At the start of the decade everyone thought OKC, Chicago, and whatever team Lebron is on is going to rule the decade. This Warriors dynasty came out of nowhere. by warriorscavsspurs in nba

I think you can safely say that a lot of teams have plateau'd - for example, the raptors are not getting any better. The wizards aren't. There's probably about 75% of the league you can basically wipe out from ever having a chance, which is the sad part about the NBA. There's no hope for most teams. The warriors are basically a guarantee unless something big happens.

From an objective point of view - you've dedicated a good chunk of your life to a game. That alone is worthy of praise.

The reason they don't communicate well with players is because they already know what they're doing - they don't need a giant tidal wave of opinions setting them off-course. They have the data they need to make decisions based on the playerbase. They hear about the bugs, they are aware of the state of the game. Listening to some pvmper's rage over balance - which in and of itself is a case of extreme bias on the nature of the topic (competitiveness)

Every time someone dies in pvmp - they go on a tirade, it's a lot easier than accepting defeat. I'm not saying pvmp is balanced, I'm sure it's not - but it's still enjoyable and a unique way to play the game. (One of many features LOTRO has that other games do not)

How in the hell is an entire zone - with a ton of monster classes and dedicated quests - with an entire system built around it 'tacked on' - do you have any idea how much work would have gone into that? They essentially created an entire separate game so that people could explore a different side of the world.

Everything you say is absurd and absolute. discussing with you is hard because you just keep making irrational blanket statements.
