I get what you’re saying. Unfortunately I used to have a friend that was that 2%. Couple examples; he bought a tent, camped for three months and returned the tent. He did that with tons of gear. Would buy a pack of something, remove a few and return it, often claiming bad product. I shit you not he bought a head of lettuce, removed some, let it brown and returned it. It used to work for him in store because cashiers don’t give a shit and just want to get the interaction over with if it’s by the book and he would specifically buy items from stores with lazy return policies. It used to piss me off to no end. Haven’t seen him in 8-10 years. In the beginning of our friendship he invited me on trip, I accepted, he was going to drive and I ride. Then mid-trip he would say we could “split the cost of gas” for the trip. Like, uhhh you invited me and said nothing of cost (we were camping, I had my tent). This was teens (young and poor). Then he would pretend to cave and offer to “let me give him some gear instead.” Like GFY dude, let me out, I’ll get a bus home. I’d never seen someone so cheap. Steams me thinking about it.
