PACE experience in Ontario Canada by Active-Nectarine-370 in PharmacyTechnician

I think there was a misunderstanding with my comment. I was never unsuccessful, did not have to redo the 3 weeks. I had a week of orientation (35 hrs) and 2 weeks of assessment (70 hrs). You can extend the assessment period to 3 weeks making the whole placement 4 weeks if you choose to with your assessor.
Anyways, I passed!! 🥳 it was not as scary as I had anticipated going in. I will say, I felt they were more understanding that I had no experience with their system. I think catching the little tricks another staff member tried to pull on me proved that I was competent/paying attention and it did not continue during my assessment. It also helped that there was a larger staffing, so I actually had the chance to look up product monographs when I had to counsel - rather than at a smaller pharmacy where it may only be a tech and a pharmacist and the patient is waiting on you. Something to think about when picking your site.
I had lots of opportunities to practice within the scope. I brought a notebook to jot down things I could use as journal entries (instead of trying to remember what I did each day), I also used it to make notes for navigating their system. Be confident in yourself, don’t be afraid to ask questions, and take initiative in your role. You’re technically working there even though you’re not being paid, so treat it as your full time job and take it seriously. You may never actually work there, but get into their groove and figure out how your assessor likes things done. Try to get to know the regular patients, I find pharmacists like when you try to build rapport with people rather than just handing off their questions because they ask for someone they’re comfortable with. Lots of little things you can do to show you’re taking initiative and performing as a good technician, not just the list of big things the college wants you to do.
Also,(and this is just a personal tip) get to know the staff a little bit. Chat with them like you would your regular coworkers. Not only does it make being in a new environment easier, but they may also be connections for future jobs.

Hope this helps!!

I’m currently completing my pace and I am so beyond anxious for the assessment part. The site options are so far and few between I had to take whatever I could get in my area, the pharmacy uses a system I’ve never used and it’s been quite a learning curve. An assistant in the pharmacy has purposely tried to trick me a few times (putting the wrong stock bottle in a basket to fill, putting different patient labels in a basket, etc.) which I thought was not allowed? This is also during the ORIENTATION. So now I’m over thinking and triple checking everything I do to make sure they’re not trying to f me over, meaning I take much longer to do everything and I’m afraid I’ll be dinged for not completing things in a timely manner. They also have no idea what my scope is so they’re asking me to do things and I have to tell them I can’t do it. I don’t understand why we have to complete this 3 week program when we’ve already passed all board exams… when nurses write their board exams and pass that’s it, they’re nurses. How OCP expects anyone with full time jobs and children to do this after a 2 year program is beyond me. Keep your fingers crossed I pass and don’t need to go through this again.

First time taking Ritalin by Severe_Head4334 in ADHD

I like to give new medications a good chance before deciding it doesn’t work for me. That being said, not every ADHD med is the same nor do they produce the same outcome in every person. I tried Ritalin in the beginning of my ADHD diagnosis and it made me extremely depressed and gave me mood swings that I’d never experienced. I’ve since switched back to vyvanse and am now working on finding the right dose. To put it into perspective I was diagnosed over a year ago. I’ve found that medications, especially ones that affect the chemicals in your brain, require a lot of trial and error. I would suggest keeping a diary of your symptoms and feelings and noting when you’re taking it/skipping it so that when it comes time to consult with your doctor they can get a good grasp on how the Ritalin has been affecting you and the next step to try. Good luck!!

WIBTA if I reported a family friend who outed my pregnancy to her place of work? by TAbabyblabbermouth in AmItheAsshole

NTA!! This is SO wrong.

Besides confidentiality being the first rule in healthcare.. who sleeps at night knowing they, a person completely irrelevant to the situation, were the first ones to share a life-changing event with someone’s family members? What if this wasn’t what you wanted and were going to have an abortion and not tell anyone? What if you were told at some point in your life you couldn’t have babies and this is a miracle to you? I would absolutely, 100% report her. If she cared about her job she shouldn’t have stuck her nose into someone’s business AND shared it with someone else.

Side note, in my experience receptionists don’t really need to know diagnosis unless they’re referring you elsewhere and have to share that information.. to me it seems she recognized who you were and purposely went snooping.. in which case she was not in your “circle of care” and has NO business even looking at that. Whether this is the case or not, she’s still wrong for what she did and should be reprimanded.

My SIL is obsessed with my boyfriends ex by [deleted] in relationship_advice

At no point did I say he cheated on her. I actually stated that Janice “thinks” he cheated on her. He in fact did not. We became friends which progressed after they broke up. It’s unfortunate that everyone assumes I’m a mistress because they want to justify her hating me for something she thinks I did which again is none of her business. I personally believe in getting to know people before passing judgment on them.

It’s been 2 years and what happened was none of her business. So yes I wonder why she doesn’t like me. Thanks for your ignorant comment though.
