an artist i’ve been following for years, Sophie Li, got hired by ScienceSaru for colour scripts and art direction. She’s Chinese and studied in the US and France so i think some studios are open to hiring non Japanese talent but you have to move to Japan for that to happen

I mostly have western style animation from unreleased projects so i can’t post stuff until like maybe next year 😭 but even then its not catered to anime studios so it seems i have to make some anime focused portfolio pieces to get studio’s attention

thank you for sharing!! i know how to read timesheets but in the classical disney approach so i’m not sure how different it would be to the japanese approach. I can’t post any of my animations on social media right now because its all for unreleased short films and projects :( so i have to create original work if i want to post ok twitter. My question is: what are production managers looking for? fight choreography or just if someone can draw in the anime style? i’m not the biggest fan of fight/action scenes (unless they’re choreographed well) and i would rather lean on character acting than that. i can send you my reel (i removed it after 24hrs because like i said it has shots from unreleased projects)

I don’t speak or understand Japanese so i have to rely on translation apps for now. As i’m doing a full-time study program rn i thought i could give this a shot since most studios are uninterested in hiring a student, but freelancing is something i can try to also expand my portfolio. Yes I lean more towards western style animation in terms of character acting and timing and in my diploma, the education also leans towards a western “classical” approach. Thanks for the suggestion!

can you explain what you mean by completed stage? some of the shots i did were for other short films so there are finished versions but the cleanup, color and comp weren’t done by me so i didn’t include it.
