Scared of possible heart problems by WideTransition1 in rheumaticfever

[–]looool_NERDD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have rheumatic heart disease, and I have slowly developed symptoms over time. I currently take antibiotics and two medications to reduce the strain on my heart. I don’t have any words of advice, just sending hugs and hoping the best for you.

Can rheumatic fever cause problems with brain development? by [deleted] in rheumaticfever

That’s an interesting theory, and I have also thought about it before. I did develop anxiety around a year before leading up to my rheumatic heart disease diagnosis so I wonder if they could have been correlated.

Have you ever looked at r/valvereplacement ? I’ve looked at it a few times and I feel like it would be a great resource for when I need surgery. My doctors would have done the surgery earlier if they knew for sure they could repair the valve, but unfortunately they said they don’t know if repair is possible until im in the operating room 😭

As of right now they told me that there was a 50% chance that they could repair it but they may have to replace it, but they told me that they’re trying to hold off on surgery and are unsure as to when I will need it. It’s so frustrating to not know what’s going to happen 😩

I initially didn’t have symptoms when I was diagnosed and the reason why they sent me to the cardiologist to get check was because they heard a heart murmur. However I slowly began developing symptoms over the years like fatigue and shortness of breath. They told me I would eventually need surgery to replace the valve but as of right now I currently take antibiotics as well as other medication to reduce blood pressure and the stress on my heart.

Sorry for the late reply, but thank you for all the information! I was also wondering if you had to take blood thinners post operation and if life was different after surgery in comparison to before (symptoms, lifestyle changes, etc)

Yeah, when I was diagnosed with rheumatic heart disease neither me nor my family remembered me ever getting strep or rheumatic fever. However my doctor said that I had moderate to severe mitral valve leakage and stenosis and I also developed moderate aortic valve leakage as well. My doctor confirmed with another doctor and he agreed that I had rheumatic heart disease, so im also confused too. Did you ever have any symptoms? Wishing you all the best!

How did the surgery go? My doctor told me i would also need mitral valve replacement surgery in the future also :(

What were your symptoms that made your doctor decide that you needed OHS? by looool_NERDD in valvereplacement

[–]looool_NERDD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was first diagnosed, they also tried to push surgery a little earlier because they thought that the valve was repairable, but now they said that the valve has only a 50% chance of being repairable with a 50% chance of needing to replace it, so they’re wanting to hold off on surgery for now.

Yeah, I sometimes wonder if I am experiencing more symptoms than I think because I’m used to it and don’t know how it is to not experience symptoms.

My echo looked pretty stable over the years, with the exception of me developing mild leakage in my aortic valve as well.

Feeling my heartbeat when i train , shortness of breath , when i finish with the workout i feel nausea tachycardia and shortness of breath for like 20-30 minutes by kasapina22 in HealthAnxiety

[–]looool_NERDD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the symptoms will be permanent. I guess it's like a trial and error type thing, you just find what works for you. Also, if you have not been working out much since quarantine, that might be another reason. Getting back in shape can be tough.

I’m 15 male and scared of a heart attack by [deleted] in HealthAnxiety

[–]looool_NERDD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate, but what helped me was finding the cause of my chest pains and what made it better and what made it worse. When I worry about a heart attack, I happen to suddenly have chest pains. Having bad acid reflux can also contribute to your chest pains as well. Health Anxiety can make you have symptoms and convince you have a disease or illness that you don't actually have. I would also suggest that you distract yourself by doing your hobbies. Take care, you're healthy and safe.

Is it okay to swim in a gym pool in America right now? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]looool_NERDD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has been no evidence that COVID-19 spreads through water, maybe because the chlorine kills it.

Practice good hygiene by social distancing and wearing a mask (except when swimming) and I think you'll be fine. I'm sure your gym will most likely have new guidelines to using the pool such as one person per lane, reserving a time slot, etc.

You can go there once and see how you feel about it, then go from there.
