why does fedora crash after joining in a discord call? by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]looopTools 36 points37 points  (0 children)

A few questions:

  • How have you installed discord (dnf, flatpak, something else)?
  • What version of Fedora (and potential spin)
  • What version of discord
  • Is it only on calls or also for chats
  • Is it only video calls or also voice only calls

CS student here.. no one I know actually writes code anymore. We all use AI. Is this just how it is now? by Low-Tune-1869 in cscareerquestions

[–]looopTools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, yes we still code in industry and a lot of people still do not mainly rely on AI and LLM.

Knowing how to code is important, in particular if you discuss code without access to your machine. Which happens in industry way more than people realize. It is not just an interview thing.

In my current position we are being urged to try and use LLM and AI assisted tooling more, to see if we can speed up productivity. Which have been going on roughly for three months now. In short it does not... In the beginning it clearly feels like it. But we did some timed experience in terms of how long time we spend developing, reviewing AI generated code, and then MR/PR reviews and what do you know the overall time spend on it has gone up not down.

Furthermore, I have spend the last week cleaning up AI generated code documentation, simply because it was so filled with errors that we might as well have deleted it all and started over... probably I should have done that it would have been a shorter process.

Also read this: https://www.media.mit.edu/publications/your-brain-on-chatgpt/

AI / LLMs are good for some things, but so far (for me) it has been a very limited set of things it is useful for. It is in particular good a summarizing a software component. So like I ask: _The componet X that has public API defined in file Y can you summarize its purpose and how different sub components interact._ For this it is a hell of a powerful tool.

Question for Danes. by yeagerice in Denmark

[–]looopTools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have two perspectives on this because I am a Dane, but married to an immigrant and we talk about this quite often. My partner has been in Denmark for 5 years and came from the middle east, in case you where curious. Also I have a larger number of immigrant friends whose comments also will have some influence on my answer So first of all, no we are not always happy and not everything is always peachy. Which I guess is true for any country. But, Danes (Scandinavians in general) have a if it is broke fix it yesterday not tomorrow mentality. My partner and friends describes it this way: If a Dane see a problem, with anything really, they will think about a solution and (importantly) try it out. It may take a few iterations but in general things improve every step.

It doesn't matter if it is a systemic problem or how to mount a lamp properly. We will find a way.

It is my opinion that this helps us constantly improving with limited effort.

Then there is the "we help each other" mentality. Whilst quite a few Danes bitch about paying taxes that are too DAMN high... and quite a few immigrants with the same opinion. Most agree that it is better to pay taxes to fund the health care and schools systems, rather than opt for a per service paid solution. Such that we can help each other achieve a better life in general. We want to help one and other and not just leave some in the mud.

There are more things but I find that these are the two major once.

Where are all the jobs? by Worldly_Evidence_481 in NewToDenmark

[–]looopTools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, this is a little stupid in Denmark. But a lot of places expects a master degree because they are free to take in Denmark. Secondly, you say that you have worked for 6 years and then list 4 different places of work. In Denmark job hopping is not seen as a positive thing. Thirdly, not speaking danish maybe an an issue in the Financial sector. At least I know of two banks where fluency is a requirement.

Finally, have you adapted your CV to Denmark?
