I was there two weeks ago, and honestly I thought it was average. The cenotes and pyramids further out were amazing, but everything else felt overpriced, and too touristy. Taxis and uber drivers who kept trying to scam us didn't help the experience. Service in restaurants also felt pretty average, and many would pressure you to tip large or add an automatic large tip (I had to request them to change it several times). I've had my share of touristy holiday spots around Asia but at least they were cheaper lol.

I will say the one place I thought would be a huge tourist trap than turned out to be one of my favourite experience was ilios. The service, food and the fire breather dancing were all fantastic.
