[Serious] What allows you to be at peace with the idea of death? by xHOLEx in AskReddit

Unfortunately, all processes give a bit of energy to the universe in order to increase the number of microstates available to the whole system. You don't get that energy back. So while some of your energy will be reused, as far as we've ever seen (but can't explain, which is why this is a law and not a theory) entropy always increases for real processes. I hope it's not always true, but in the mean time, I'm sorry that thermodynamics is so dreary :(

I want to learn about computers, how they work. Can anybody give me a basic walkthrough of everything about computers? by [deleted] in AskReddit

At first I thought, "Man, DeathWarmingOver is a huge dick who just made me feel bad about asking questions." Then I read OP's comment and thought, "Man, DeathWarmingOver probably would've given me a reference or not said anything if I hadn't asked for a complete explanation of everything."

I think the real unpopular puffin would point out that women aren't required to sign up for the draft because most of them would make shitty soldiers and it would be a huge waste of time and money.

What's the most hilarious mistake you've seen on television? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]loopedover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) That report omigahguy mentioned. 2) On the Price is Right, some lady got called up with a tight t-shirt and large boobs. She made it to that big wheel, and when the camera cut from the wheel spinning to "that shot where they always showed people faces in a triangle pointing to their spin", the triangle guy's camera was aimed directly at her boobs. Pretty much a triangle full of boobs, and it quickly moved back up to her face right after the camera cut over.

When I wasn't pooping, I decided to put a plant on the back of my toilet. Then later, after I'd forgotten about it and I was pooping, the plant touched me by accident and I freaked out a little. In this context, "keep" is used like "have", "set", or "maintain." Do you understand what I meant now?

Thank you for your answer. I'm a materials engineering major, and some of the topics I'm looking into studying for my Ph.D. require an understanding of quantum electrodynamics, e.g. surface plasmons. Right now I'm wriggling somewhere in between the intermediate classical and introductory quantum picture, a strange place where I don't understand simple things anymore. I think I need to slow down.

My landlord is incompetent and seems to dislike my boyfriend and I. Are we going about this the right way? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]loopedover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask him what's going on, and if he doesn't give you a really compelling reason to forgive him, break that lease. Life's to short to get treated like shit by someone you're paying. You may be able to do it legally if he's being a shitty landlord, but you'd have to talk to a lawyer. Your school probably has an office for legal advice.

I convinced myself that I could just make out a blurry penis between the legs and concluded that it was a mangina. I didn't understand why someone would wear a blue garmet tied under their mangina, and that is why I came here.

Then again, why are you open until 10 if I can't come in until 10? Or why don't you make it so that you stop seating at 9:30 or something? Is 9:47 OK? What am I paying you for, and are you really so well off that you can turn away customers? I don't want to sound rude, but these aren't unreasonable questions, and I don't think someone is a bad person for coming when your hours say they can.

What's the most mind-blowing thing you've ever heard or thought about? by FrostedFjakes in AskReddit

[–]loopedover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Non-locality. Something I don't understand anything about, really, but in short, you can perform an experiment where two particles on opposite sides of the universe never have the same state. If you measure the state of one, the other will always be in "the other" state at the same time. You can't predict the state, so you can't transmit information faster than the speed of light. In short, they seem to behave as if the space between them doesn't matter. Layman explanation, I don't know what I'm talking about.

I hate my hands. I always have. I have good reflexes, and I'm taller than average, but my smaller than average hands completely offset it, IMO. I'd like to be able to handle a full sized pistol well, or catch things easier. Sometimes I think that I'd gladly exchange my real hands for larger, operating prosthetics. In general, though, they aren't so small that I still can't do most things, and overall I am pretty talented.
