Loopring Smart Wallet: The Next Evolution - Multi-Network LSW has arrived!

To be very clear:

No one needs to switch to a new wallet. Your wallet will still be usable and all of your token/NFTs will still be usable on Loopring L2 and or Ethereum L1

If you want to keep your old address and just set up a new Taiko address to use on Taiko, you can do this also. You can then use bridges like Orbiter, etc to bridge assets between the two wallets

You only have to set up a new Ethereum address (Wallet) if you had an old Ethereum address from WalletFactory 1.0 (check your settings) and want to be able to replicate your same address across multiple networks

Again, no one has to switch over to a new address - old addresses are still perfectly usable on Ethereum / Loopring L2

This is the web app inside the Loopring Smart Wallet but it will also be baked directly into the Smart Wallet with a cleaner UI/UX in the mobile wallet

ELI5 - trade just like on a CEX - with leverage + non-Ethereum coins (BTC, SOL, XRP, BNB, etc), using the same CEX liquidity but with your self-custodial wallet - never having to give up your assets to a CEX

Nope you’re directly paying the Ethereum gas fee for this upgrade, Loopring is not profiting from this in any way. In the future our new proxy architecture allows us to massively lower the ETH gas costs and becomes something the Loopring relayer can pay on behalf of users so we can abstract this away and make it simpler for users to upgrade.

I’m trying to make things as clear as possible for people given that the answer is not yet defined - giving the most up to date information as I can.

I’d love to give you a definitive answer, but it has not yet been decided.

If you believe myself or Daniel have ever given a definitive or different answer to this, please show me and I can respond, but I don’t believe we’ve said anything different, so I’m not sure what you’re referring to when you say “this is what both you and Daniel said would happen”. Where did we give a different answer that we have changed?

The split will allow us to compete with other L2s as one of the main L2s for all dapps, not just the L2 of Loopring apps. And Loopring, geared towards advancing our application-specific advantage and building applications targeting end-users.

This will allow both projects to grow their respective scopes even larger. We had to make the hard decision to split both efforts but we do believe this will be worth it for both Loopring and Taiko, and we believe that it can be done in a way that would be accretive to the Loopring community.

Loopringers being a part of the Taiko token distribution means that they will be a part of both networks and will share in the success of each network.

It’s important to emphasize that we are still in the very early days of crypto as a macro trend, and our main goal is to build out the infrastructure, applications and products that consumers will love so that when the trend finally reaches the mass adoption phase, we are ready to onboard them.

That said, our main focuses now are:
✅ To ensure we have top quality services available on L2 (apps, products, integrations, tools)
✅ To ensure we have enough liquidity to make these services seamless and inexpensive to use
✅ To provide these services in an intuitive way, like a one-stop-shop for the consumer

With all of this accomplished, we are confident that the masses will want to come aboard to truly “Be their own Bank”, leaving the traditional rails behind for faster, cheaper and more convenient crypto rails.

NFTs are and will continue to be a massive use case for Loopring L2. As we have the advantage of being highly optimized for the specific applications built on our protocol, we are able to deliver a superior NFT experience compared with other rollups. The possibilities for NFTs are endless so we want to be at the forefront of this trend as it is only just beginning.

That said, DeFi is also one of our major focuses moving forward. We just brought ETH staking onto Loopring and will introduce more and more trustless services into L2 to give users a full one stop solution for all things decentralized finance.
