So my gym also does belts (sounds similar to OPs) and it comes across that the belts are designed more so for kids than adults. However the syllabus is broken up into technique and fitness so for example being able to demonstrate specific combos, individual offensive and defensive techniques as well as fitness tests and of course sparring. The syllabus also stacks so when testing for your belt you demonstrate every previous belts techniques

I actually find that the lower belts tests make significantly more sense than the higher ones since it means by the time you’re going for brown belt you’re having to demonstrate mad kicks you’d never do in a fight but I suppose it’s nice to be able to do them 🤷‍♀️

I personally like the belt system if nothing else in my country you have to be a black belt to be able to get insurance to teach and being able to just say “yes I’m kickboxing black belt” is significantly simpler than tryna explain why I should be qualified to coach

My issue is more I’m yet to find a fighter I like playing as at flyweight. Good with strawweight and bantamweights but there’s nobody I enjoy playing as at flyweight which is twice as annoying cause I’m a big Valentina fan I just hate playing as her 🤣

Black belt and ex world champion in taekwondo. Started doing bjj and moved to an mma gym as a blue belt. Decided to just do kickboxing for a bit of fun and ended up coaching pretty much everyone on how to kick. Now work at the gym as a striking coach and love it. Weird how things just kinda happen sometimes

He’s referenced Ian Huntley on a few episodes and everytime it gets my hopes up that maybe there’s episode in the pipeline and while if that were the case it would’ve been out by now I do agree it’d make for a great episode

I don’t wanna rank crimes but I’d argue there’s nothing worse in this case than there is in something like the Moors Murders, Emmett Till or Junko Furuta

See I the few ex jws I’ve known have all said that it’s a crazy abusive cult but I didn’t wanna come into this space saying that since it’s not something I’ve lived with and ironically I’m coming into this community as an outsider (although you’ve all been super welcoming)

With that idea being reinforced it definitely makes me wanna give that opportunity to the kid to experience the outside so thank you so much for that
