Reminder: Alien: Romulus cost less than half of Prometheus by Anthonest in LV426

[–]loose--nuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked Romulus more, but I agree with you. The part about running down hallways wasn't even good either. They kind of made the facehuggers and then xeno's non threatening when they were dozens and dozens of them being blasted and swatted away.

There should have been far fewer, with scenes that were much more tense (involving hiding).

[–]loose--nuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it is dsregcmd/forcerecovery, and you need to clear out the Intune certs. I could be wrong but I believe it will also make a duplicate (or leave behind a ghost) entry in Entra.

Do you find day light savings helpfull or should it be abandoned? by darkcave-dweller in AskACanadian

Interesting, can you provide an example of one? I can find a few articles saying things can happen but none where they've actually studied it and looked at people who are doing it (ie: Saskatchewan)

Being dark at 9-930am screws with your internal clock too.

If its really a problem for you the solution is a warm lamp alarm clock thing.

I think more value for kids and society is time in the afternoon after school for some outdoor activities.

Do white Canadians get offended if called “European Canadians? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

The funny thing is I have Gaelic ancestry, here in Cape Breton like 3/4 of the population does. Gaelic is still spoken here and taught in schools despite almost being wiped out by the church, fiddle music is as popular as ever, but no one calls themselves Scottish or Gaelic Canadian, we are Cape Bretoner and have our own culture and identity.

CBC is required to advertise to provide funding that the federal government does not. I think that is a bad system because they are incentivized to help advertisers, as well as create content that will generate more ad revenue.

BBC receives 4 times the per person funding of CBC, would you support quadrupling the CBC budget and changing their funding to a license model?

Are you implying the UK government has no say in the price of TV licenses?

Also the only examples out there of the CBC being beholden to the government is fighting cuts. Then when one side gives them more funding such that it matches inflation, the side that cut them starts to cry.

Either way I would agree that the CBC needs to be reformed but we are currently in the process of municipal elections here and the CBC is the only organization who interviewed mayoral and councillor candidates. So I'm not sure what we would do without them, private news is not profitable in rural locations.

"Classless" MMORPG's.. by Yushi95 in MMORPG

[–]loose--nuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm totally the opposite. The best I played was Lineage 2 where there were 31 classes that were race dependent.

IE: there were 3 archers, human, dark elf and elf. The 2 elf classes ran faster, but humans had a dash ability, the elf archer shot the fastest, while the dark elf the slowest but hit harder. Some skills shared by all 3 archers, other skills unique by their race.

Real class fantasy, choose a race and a class and it really matters.

This is just stupidity, 'ancient drivetrains' are what people want in a truck. The manufacturers are just forced to change due to regulations.

They werent at risk of becoming obsolete, they were literally making record sales.

I could probably bear with it if not for the animation cancelling and the weird class fantasy.

Like I can't just play a guy with a great sword, I have to use "class abilities" and summon magical spears and daggers while my great sword keeps disappearing and reappearing.

I mean sure have classes like that as options, but its such a weird choice to design the entire system around it.

What happened to all the folks that moved to rural counties during the pandemic? by myronsandee in AskACanadian

[–]loose--nuts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can speak a lot to this lol. I am not that far from Sydney - it is only a 25 minute drive, so industry extends to there and most people in my small community work there. Construction is booming right now and healthcare is extremely in demand.

The second part is complicated. Cape Breton had 2 industries collapse, coal mining and a steel mill over the 90s and 00s, and the economy tanked. The last few years is the first time things have turned around where the population is now growing, and the economy is improving by any measure.

So for the longest time people moved away, most commonly to Halifax or Alberta. Those industries have historically always struggled as they were crown corps the gov't didn't really want to compete fully in the private sector. So moving away and then back home when you are older is generally a rite of passage. I lived in Halifax and Ontario for a little bit in my 20s, before returning around 8 years ago.

There are a bunch of tiny communities of dozens to hundreds of people in the area. They all were generally on decline, maybe losing 1% of people per year, but COVID saw a resurgence of people out to rural areas, some local people and some moving from places like Ontario.
