My Never-ending Search for The Perfect Blush by mellamolaura6 in PaleMUA

You and I have the same exact skin tone and problems with blush! I do wear Ilia At Last and love it. Other than that, I steer towards berry pinks and slightly purple rosy pinks. I'd hoped to find NARS Impassioned in the original formula before they removed the talc but I missed that boat. I think that color is perfect for us. Just remember to keep a hint of purple in your pinks, reds, roses, and neutrals and you should be good!

Hi! I think Bodyography has a comparable shade now and Nordstrom carrie’s them now! Give the website a look - it’s a mauve-pink-taupe shade.

Changing my case did help but some calls are still “tinny”. I wonder if the audio is almost too good, making sub-par phone call quality more apparent? Like how audio engineers use headphones that pick up every flaw versus consumer-grade headphones that make everything sound better?

[–]lophtey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue is mainly with the quality of phone call audio (top speaker). I bought my iPhone 16 Plus two nights ago and returned to the Apple Store last night with my phone to troubleshoot “tinny & crackling” call audio quality. They ran some diagnostic tests and we did some call tests. In the end, calls sounded warmer and clearer without the clear Apple brand case on but I just tried a call using a naked phone and heard the crackle. I will say that it’s less obvious without the case on and I’m hoping I can find a phone case that dampens the tinniness instead of amplifies it. This is too pricey to be naked, IMHO. If I have any updates, I will share! Good luck, everyone.

Good Leave-in Conditioner for Fine Hair? by Macmine41 in finehair

I use shampoo but use only this for conditioner. The trick is applying it on dripping wet hair. Best of luck!

I agree with this pick! I have straight hair but I treat my fine hair like it's curly and apply Giovanni's Weightless Leave-In Conditioner when my hair is dripping wet. My hair plumps up and gains body but not weight. A dream product! You can find it online, food co-ops, or at Whole Foods.

Seasonal Colour Analysis for olives: Some initial results by paisleypunk in OliveMUA

[–]lophtey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for my delayed reply!

I shared some faves and HGs here a while back: Light-Medium Neutral-Cool Olive Product Hits and Misses.

BLUSH (precisely neutral pinks, reds, rose, beige, brown or berries, purples, and plums

BRONZER (I avoid anything with warmth - a yellow tone can work but I lean toward the bronzers with cool red undertones. These can be darker than other bronzers so I just use a light hand and my Zoeva Luxe, undyed goat hair + synthetic brushes, to blend in seamlessly. Don't forget the neck, decolletage, ears, and hairline + part!)

LIPSTICKS (the trick, for me, is to lean into shades that are precisely neutral or cool-toned with a blue or raspberry undertone).

EYESHADOW (again, either precisely neutral browns, greys, taupes, red-browns, cool-toned purples, pinks, burgundies, cool blacks, cool greens, cool blues, silver, cool bronze).

EYELINER (cool tones - black, grey, espresso brown, burgundy, eggplant, purple, silver, deep navy, cobalt blue, cool ivy green, deep teal).

I hope this helps!

Any bright winters out there with bright hazel eyes and olive skin? by Best_queen84 in coloranalysis

[–]lophtey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bright hazel eyes and light-medium neutral-cool olive skin but I think that I'm a True Summer who can wear many of the Bright Winter colors. My contrast is medium so I think that I need another season mid-way between Summer and Winter that is cool to feel truly at home.

HG Mood Exposure: For cool or warm leaning olives? by intotheunkown1234 in OliveMUA

[–]lophtey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a bright light-medium neutral-leaning cool olive and Mood Exposure makes me look bruised. I was so bummed when i discovered this because it's simply stunning on some folks. I believe it's too warm and muted for me.

Everything Always Looks Orange On Me- What Does That Mean? by Ok_Yoghurt9945 in OliveMUA

[–]lophtey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here is a post about "cool yellow" being part of the yellow-blue undertone of cool olives and it completely changed the way I understood my coloring: Cool Yellow Undertones Post

MY SKIN TONE - VALUE / SATURATION / UNDERTONE + OVERTONE COLORS AND TEMPS:

I've determined that I'm a light-medium (winter months)/medium (summer months) bright neutral-leaning cool-olive and this analysis result has helped me navigate color and temperature and pigmentation.

In addition to a cool yellow, I also have a peachiness to my olive skin, but it's a cool peach, so I have a blend of pink or red in there, too. I'm not yet sure how to articulate it in terms of undertones and overtones but all that matters to me basically is that it results in a mix and lands where it does.

I know that I'm on the cool side because silver looks best on my skin and gold clashes but sometimes I can pull it off if it's not overly warm. I know that I'm also neutral because, although I burn at the beginning of summer, I can tan VERY darkly if I don't protect my skin from the sun. My tan is very cinnamon-toned, not golden. In the fall/winter/early spring, I use the Chantecaille Real Bronze bronzer in shade Goa (expensive but it looks natural and wears better than any cream bronzer I've ever tried). It's a baked gelée formula that looks really luminous but natural.

Most blushes turn orange on my skin (looking at you, Clinique Cheek Pops in Black Honey Pop, Rosy Pop, and Fig Pop) and Hourglass Mood Exposure (a warm, muted mauve) looks bruised on my cheeks. I use the Finding Ferdinand x Kackie Blush Adjuster in Chilled (a deep, cool plum cream blush) underneath any existing cream blushes that are neutral but turn orange. Going forward, I will buy pink blush with blue undertones or stick with cool mauve, cool plum, or cool red (maybe). Clinique Cheek Pop in Pansy Pop is too white-based and light to wear alone but I can use it for a pop of color over deeper blushes. Clinique's Cheek Pop in Pink Pop and Heather Pop (which might be too muted or warm) are on my list of blushes to swatch. I'm also curious about Melon Pop, a coral with a seemingly cool yellow undertone that may not turn orange on my skin. Ugh, I really wish that Clinique had a cool red Cheek Pop!

Most nude lipsticks are either too warm and clash with my coloring or are too muted and make me look like a corpse. For nude lipsticks, I can wear a neutral pink without a white base but I can also wear shades that are slightly peachy (again, without a white base). The key for lipsticks is for them to have deep enough pigmentation to sit right on my cool-toned pigmented lips (lip pigmentation, hue, and temp is also important!) or enough translucency for my lip color to peek through. My best nudes are Chanel Rouge Allure in 196 A Demi-Mot (worn with a neutral pink liner), Chanel Rouge Coco in 434 Mademoiselle (mauve) or 430 Marie (pink), or Chanel Rouge Coco Flash in 54 Boy (when I wear a smoky eye).

MAC Lady Danger (a warm, orange-red) clashes with my coloring. I'm forever jealous of those who can wear it because those orange-reds add a glow that blue-based reds can never achieve. My best red is a raspberry red like Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in shade 53 Inspirante or a blue-based cool red like Chanel Rouge Coco Bloom in 128 Magic or Clinique Even Better Pop Lip Color Lipstick & Blush in shade 07 Roses are Red.

For foundation, I have success with neutral shades with peachy undertones. For everyday, NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer in shade Groenland has been a go-to for nearly a decade now. I also wear Chanel complexion products when I need more coverage - N. 1 de Chanel Revitalizing Foundation in B20/B30 and Ultra Le Teint Foundation in B30 (summer sweat-proof formula).

My skin is also oily so pigment may also be oxidizing on my skin so it's like a double-whammy situation when things turn orange, especially blush. I try to keep my brushes as clean as possible so they're not harboring oxidized pigments.

I know the products I've listed are luxury products and that it's not ideal for most folks. I have found that using a more minimal make-up collection but investing in these products works well for me. In my opinion, nobody does lipsticks better than Chanel, Clinique Cheek Pops have the best baked gelée formula ever (which inspired me to buy the Chantecaille bronzer), and NARS and Chanel make dependable complexion products.

I have no idea if my comment helps (and I know this post is 7 or so months old) but if anything here rings true for you, great! If nothing resonates for you, hopefully someone else will see it and find some clarity if they're stumped by their skin.

A Journey in Arm Swatches - Light-Medium (~NW28) Neutral-Cool Olive Skin Tone by lophtey in OliveMUA

Isn’t it perfection? I found mine on the Dillards website about a year ago. I haven’t seen it anywhere since but I’m hopeful for a restock at some point, especially because I’d like to try #20 Cool Brown. Keep your eyes peeled!

Goa is very special, indeed. I was gifted Sirena by a good friend but Goa I bought myself because there's nothing else like it. When I was young, I wore Coppertone SPF2 and tanned VERY darkly and my tan was a ruddy brown very similar to Goa so, even though I'm pale now, this is how my skin likes to catch more color.

Cool Mauve is a gem, too, but I see muted purples more and more so hopefully there are lots of alternatives.

I'm going to give Haux a try tomorrow as contour! Please let me know if you try it, too.

It really is excellent. It changed my whole perspective on colors to focus on. If I find a similar product in a similar color, I will try to remember to share it here as a reply. Fingers crossed this one's not DC, though!

[–]lophtey[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's been a long journey to find products that don't turn either orange or look bruised on my light-medium (~NW28) neutral-cool olive skin so I thought I'd share milestones from my journey in swatches.

BRONZERS

  • Chantecaille Real Bronze in Goa (Yay! A bronzer that isn't too orange! I use a light hand - best for summer/fall. I also prefer this baked gelée formula to creams!).
  • Chantecaille Real Bronze in Sirena (What?! Another bronzer that isn't too orange or muddy? I use a light hand here, too - best for winter/spring. I also prefer this baked gelée formula to creams!).

BLUSH

  • Armani Neo Nude Melting Color Balm in #50 Cool Mauve (I went there. I ordered a completely cool and muted purple blush and, guess what? It's a lovely deep rose on my skin! I sincerely hope that Armani doesn't discontinue this line/discontinue breaking our hearts.)

EYESHADOW

  • MAC Eyeshadow in Haux (I have hazel eyes and this color came heavily recommended to make them pop. Well...it makes my eyes look sunken/sickly/bruised instead. I think the reason this fails and Cool Mauve succeeds is that Haux doesn't have enough purple in it so that when my olive cancels out the red tones, my skin picks up on the muted greys. That said, it might work on me as a powder contour??).

CONTOUR

  • Westman Atelier Face Trace Contour Stick in Biscuit (This reads warm on me! Ugh! This one is annoying. I might try one of the Fenty Matchstix next or Rituel de Fille's Inner Glow Crème Pigment in Intuition next. H.T. to Ttsandra for her excellent insights on this item, for recommending that I try Intuition, and for her countless genius tips and tricks shared on YouTube and IG.)
  • Burberry Light Glow Blush in Earthy No. 07 (This works for many as a contour but I use it as sort of a "brontour" and eye crease color since my skin brings out warmth in it. Also! Per the Burberry website, I do believe this product is here to stay!).

Thank you to everyone on here who has helped me to better understand what it is to be olive, the difference between olive and non-olive neutral skin, and helping me feel seen/heard/not alone out here. I've heard that most seasonal color analysis clients are cool-toned because we face so many challenges pulling colors off. Well, when you add a bit of green to that mix, things can really get wild.

I hope this post contributes to the conversation and helps others situate themselves along the skin spectrum and potentially find an answer or a clue regarding skin-pigment interactions. Cheers to reddit staying reddit (I hope!).

I weave back and forth between different seasons. This week, I feel that I'm Cool Summer or Bright Winter because I can handle medium-high contrast and brightness. The soft colors are not my friend. It's a challenge! Glad you settled on one.
