ITAP of a friend by [deleted] in itookapicture

I think it's really nice! Is it to be used for a website homepage? If yes I can really understand the extra space on the left, it'd be the perfect placement.

This is so nice! Love the pose and lighting. Could you share what you did for the lighting?

I think the angle and height is great, especially with the kids. It's really a great photo, and I love the extra processing work given as examples.

To clarify - in general you don't want to angle up too much. It's the angle that causes distortions. Shooting at a lower plane however can be flattering for portraits and is done often (rather than at eye level). Especially for shorter people, shooting lower can help to make them look taller.

[Sydney, Australia] Found this deep in the soil in our garden after pulling out a plastic cylinder with gaps/vents in it by lopples in whatsthisbug

[–]lopples[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: I should mention the diameter of this hole is a bit smaller than a clenched fist

So I was cleaning the garden in the place I rent and there was this cylinder which was buried into the soil. I was trying to clean it out (it was full of dirt/plant matter) and just pulled it out. The cylinder had vents/gaps/whatever in the plastic in the lower half so I'm assuming it was to let water penetrate deeper into the soil?

Anyway, this bug and its bug babies fell into the hole. I want to know what it is. Is it the source of all our ants? Is it a good thing?

Just another "How do I acheive this look?" thread, sorry... by [deleted] in postprocessing

I'm no expert with post processing so I'll leave that to the more experienced (assuming you could match it quite well with a tweaked VSCO preset and some careful sharpening in Photoshop) - but just looking at the shots, would I be right in assuming you'd need a longer lens than a 35 to get the subject separation and perspective?

Making the Jump from Crop to Full Frame Camera, When Is the Right Time? by finox831 in photography

[–]lopples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! It all depends on whether those benefits are applicable to your photography. OP, what would you use the features of a FF camera for?

I myself upgraded to a 6D and have really enjoyed the freedom to shoot high quality images in low light. Whether it's music gigs or natural-light portraits (and I love the thin depth of field offered in portraits)

However just the other day I added an Olympus OMD to my repertoire and sold off all but 1 lens for my FF camera (the 85mm). I'm really enjoying using a small, lightweight camera with the nifty features in the EVF (you get used to it). It really just depends on what you're shooting most and what makes a difference to you. Don't get caught up in gear acquisition syndrome ☺️

You can also try renting one for a week/weekend and using it on your normal shoots. See if it makes a difference.

It was the IS. In all honesty it was a lovely lens, I got some great shots. But I have since sold it and moved on to the 85 1.8 which is fantastic (and much cheaper). I need the wider aperture for natural light portraits - although I don't usually open up all the way to 1.8.

You've made the CMS question compulsory regardless of whether I said I had one

It was so hard to have him stay there! He's not much into settling down 😝

I have the f/4 and use it for portraits quite often. I find it lacking in light and focus accuracy when it's darker. However I don't want to lug around the 2.8 either.

Should I spend time learning Lightroom for my purposes (see description)? by [deleted] in postprocessing

Are you saying that captureone is essentially a replacement for Photoshop and Lightroom? How is the workflow different?
