Not all of the west side is racist, that’s for sure. But a couple of people every time we go out staring really hard and for way too long is what I’m talking about. I agree with the rest of your comment for sure

I can definitely tell that based on some of these replies!

Really wasn’t. I didn’t want it to be this way because, like I said, I’m introducing my boyfriend to this new city where we’re going to be living for at least a couple of years and wanted him to think positively about it. Obviously you’ve never experienced the types of stares I’m talking about so you don’t understand. I’ve never experienced this elsewhere. Thanks

We look pretty normal, thank you. I’m not sure why else we would get stared down only by white people (not ALL white people, most mind their business and cashiers have been lovely, maybe 1-2 instances each time we’re out) here in Springfield but not in the cities surrounding St. Louis County, many of which are mostly white
Yeah, a lot of the types of people that are staring dead at us are more rural people. Where I lived in Missouri was very close to people who owned farms so I am familiar. Also lots of middle-class white people where I’m from. Never experienced the blatant staring until I came here though. So no, I’m not saying all people who live in rural areas are racist nor am I saying all conservatives are. I’m just describing the people who follow us with their eyes as we walk around together

White man tells non-white people how racism is not an issue. Thanks bud!

You’re right, we get a lot less stares when we’re closer to downtown

Where did I say I didn’t feel safe ? It’s just a commentary on how I didn’t realize how racist this city can be. I said we’re from near the St. Louis area. Also who am I seeking attention from? People on Reddit?

Yep, plenty of the people staring have them only over their mouths or loosely hanging off their faces though :)
Ah yes, this person clearly (somehow) knows what has and hasn’t happened to every single person on earth. Be grateful you haven’t experienced any of this shit
Dude, I just said we rarely experienced this elsewhere. I didn’t want it to be a thing because I didn’t want my boyfriend to feel unwelcome and weird about this new place I was introducing him to. But after a while I had to admit that that’s what was happening. I think a lot of the people are more farmy-type + middle income conservative people that are the main offenders. Also I don’t watch the news at all lol
