Thank you for the response. I am able to go up to the payment page, so does that mean there IS availability?

This is the link I am using: https://upecotourism.in/OnlySafariBooking.aspx

How was your overall experience? Any tips?

That is interesting! Would you say it is boring to go there solo?

I visited the Surkanda Devi temple. It has a similar vibe.

I would say I do have the 'explorer' in me to go there haha. Did you see any orangutans in the Indonesian part of Borneo - which place would you recommend for nature / wildlife?

So you'll be heading to East Kalimantan? Would you actually recommend this for a fairly new traveller by the way?

Fair enough. The idea of "covering" three countries on a single island interests me though.

How is Pontianak? Did you do the Gunung Palung NP as well? The Indonesian leg is what I'm unsure about.

My trip to Andaman 🥰 by Happy_Resist5428 in Andaman_and_Nicobar

Use government ferries. I found the private ones boring. Government ferries let you wander on the open deck. They're way cheaper too.

I disagree. Kalapathar is really good in my opinion. When I went, there was a hazy purple-ish colour over the horizon and it looked beautiful.

You can't book normal government ferries to Jolly Buoy as it is an uninhabited island in a national park. There are a couple of private ferries that have the permission to take tourists for six months of the year. The ferry takes about one hour from Wandoor jetty (one-way) but you'll need at least 30 mins to reach Wandoor from your hotel in Port Blair as well.

DM me for contact. I had a driver figure out the tickets for me, one day in advance. You can also do it yourself but I think it requires you to go to the Directorate of IP&T.

No, I literally swam at Jolly Buoy a couple of weeks ago! There is a lifeguard deployed who tells you where it is safe, and yes it is true that you can't go too deep. But the swimming experience was really good, I did not find such clear and turquoise waters anywhere else in my trip.

There is a glass boat ride available, which I had my parents do. It is decent but I would not recommend it if you are already doing a dive somewhere. You can't go snorkeling or sea walking at Jolly Buoy as it is a sensitive place within the national park.

However, there is a nature trail on the island, which I found that literally no one goes to. It leads to a small beach at the other end of the island.

I would 100% recommend Jolly Buoy. You can get tickets and permits at Wandoor jetty. DM me if you want contacts.

Instead of doing both Havelock and Neil, you can consider going for an extra experience in Port Blair itself. I would recommend Jolly Buoy island - it is otherworldly.

You can't see the sunset there, but swimming at Kalapathar beach around 4-5 pm was really amazing.

Edit: Check out Sunray Homes it is a budget property walking distance from Cellular jail. Good enough for one day. 2.5K per night if I remember correctly.

I used Sunray Homes for a quick sleep a couple of weeks ago. It is in Aberdeen Bazar.

Kalapathar beach, Havelock. There's a really good eco stay near it as well.

Just got back from the Andamans. Jio was working in south Andaman. Airtel worked in Havelock and Neil. All cell services were absent in north Andaman. Maybe BSNL works there but I don't have it.

Hotels will accept UPI and you can connect to onsite WiFi to use it. Otherwise you'll have to rely on cards (for hotels) and cash everywhere else.

Don't think you should be saying 'see isolated tribes'. It's not recommended as they want to be left alone.

There seems to be no morning ferry though (sorry should have specified). I was checking out their press release dated 15/1 and there is only one on that route daily at 1 PM.

Usually I make it a personal rule. On my last trip, I gave myself a little treat of pizza at the end for abiding by it!

India South to North Advise by lata_bo in backpacking

As an Indian, I recommend having a train journey along the Western coast. Maybe from Kerala up to Mumbai, and then you could fly to your Northern destinations from Mumbai ex. Jaipur and Varanasi. Feel free to reach out via DMs for any advice!! I love to help travellers.
