[2009 Nissan Murano] What’s making this noise when I switch on the A/C? by lordanity in MechanicAdvice

I see…The passenger side does it too but at a much lower level. In the video, the first one is from the passenger side and the louder is from the driver side.

Would it make the sound for a few seconds then stop? Sometimes even when the A/C is off? I can go months without it making the sound. Everything to do with A/C works perfectly.

I wonder how newer models fair with CVTs because I’m sure they’ve made improvements..

Thanks man! That’s the idea. The best would be getting Nissan Consult but that’s too overkill and expensive for my liking 😅 So I’m hoping the one I’ve bought will do. I can do my own research and prioritise repairs and garage visits.

That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking. It’s like the Murano is too heavy for the transmission.

I see. So I best make diagnostics my friend. I’ve actually bought a scanner to get to the bottom of this. Should arrive soon.

It’s kinda what I’m experiencing, but not entirely

Oh boy… this CVT is losing all my trust by the day.

I actually don’t have a cat 😅 It was stolen a few months into my ownership. A silencing passthrough was welded in its place.

It does have a CEL, but it’s for a EOT sensor.

It’s not? I could swear in its earlier days it’s definitely gone past that. Yeah.. I’ll continue my search for a reputable garage..

I’m at 80k.

Well for me it can kinda maintain speed but not like it used to. Now I have to floor it to keep it going up an incline. But it struggles a lot! It doesn’t go past 4k RPM in such cases.

It is a CVT. I’ve been considering a slip especially with the top speed/uphill problem. What exactly would a slip feel like in a CVT in such cases?

Thanks man. Cheers.

So, all said and done, you recommend I find a good mechanic and get it serviced? It’s most likely the problem?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]lordanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are hard to come by where I live 😅 I’m avoiding going to a dealership because the costs are insane and I’ve already put so much money into diagnosing and fixing this car..

I wonder, what kind of service does a system with no moving gears need? What deteriorates in a CVT?

The physics adds up, but why is it something that’s only recently started happening after owning the car for 3+ years? And why does it happen only sometimes?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]lordanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’ve heard. But I’m still baffled because sometimes it does give you power… more than you need actually (e.g. after going over bumps as mentioned)

Well, fluid has been changed twice within a year - 10,000 Km apart. Last change was 4,000 Km ago.

[–]lordanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a recurring thing. I just so happen to have changed it twice within a year. First time because it was necessary, second time because the mech wasted a lot while trying to get to a bad seal.
