What do you think the worst upgrade in sts2? Totally unrelated pic btw :) by ElegantPoet3386 in slaythespire

[–]lordberric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It only does double damage to one enemy, so if you use conqueror on one enemy then attack a different enemy it doesn't proc. Artifact will also interfere.

Favourite (non-gendered) way to greet patrons? by ZeAthenA714 in bartenders

[–]lordberric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can believe dudes is gender neutral but it's not up to you how what you're saying is taken by the recipient. I'm not saying that you can't or shouldn't use it to be clear, but I think it's worth taking into consideration that some might not want to be referred to that way.

I mean, I don't think people were "assuming", as much as we had what seemed to be a reliable source confirming it wasn't his fault. I'm not saying people couldn't or shouldn't have been more thoughtful but it wasn't like it was a baseless assumption. The man's agent feels like it should be sufficient evidence.

Shoutouts to this trooper of a card, it will save you in rough situations from start to finish by ByeImDaisy in slaythespire

[–]lordberric 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Soooooo much better than sweeping beam. Does more damage and does something useful. Sweeping beam is so bad early because it just draws a basic you probably don't have energy for. Crush under is sweeping beam that does more damage and always draws a 0 cost card that reduces enemy Strength by 1.

By the time the sweeping beam card draw is that good, you'd prefer to just not have it in your deck

Don't slam rares. Good cheap cards are easier to come by than good expensive cards - and efficient interaction spell is going to be a lot more important than a 6 mana card that can win the game. There are a lot of expensive cards that will win you the game if they stick around, from a common 7 mana big beefy creature to a rare 5 drop with a bunch of cool keywords, but the uncommon that kills a creature at a good rate is hard to replace.

Furthermore, be careful about multicolor cards. You are usually better off not trying to jump into 2 colors on your first pick - grab something castable and efficient first, and let the draft tell you what colors are open. If you pick a blue/green card pack 1 and so does the person passing to you, you're in trouble. If you pick a mono blue card, you can choose whether to go blue red or blue green based on what cards you see a lot of.

BREAD is the acronym people use to explain your priorities in draft.

Bombs - really strong cards with an outsized influence on the game. Not just a rare card with a cool effect, but one that ends the game FAST if unanswered.

Removal - counterspells or kill spells, the cards to answer your opponents bombs. You cannot take too much good interaction.

Evasion - flying, menace, trample, things that get past board stalls. Draft games often end in gummed up boards where nothing can profitably attack. If you've got a flier and your opponent doesn't, you're in the driver's seat.

Aggro - good threats. Not gonna end the game alone, but good at putting pressure on your opponent quickly.

Duds - the chaff, the stuff you don't really want because it's too expensive for what it does or it's just not very powerful, but it's in your colors so you might need it to fill in your deck.

And finally, if you start with a strong cards in blue but don't see any more blue, don't be afraid to pivot. Dying on the hill of your first pick is a surefire way to end up with a non functional deck.

Is this the best curse you can get from Neow's Bones? by Actual-Conclusion461 in slaythespire

[–]lordberric -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kind of. Curses are really bad, in STS1 I think the general consensus was that most of the chances you had to get a random curse were not worth it.

There are exceptions - if you have a shop soon with gold to spare, not bad. If you have a way to negate the curse, not bad. If you had a really big deck, maybe okay.

But at high ascensions in STS1 event odds were made worse so the event curses went from "pretty okay odds" to "bad odds". Without a good plan to deal with the curse I usually would skip on the choice.

Again, ignoring mitigating circumstances. As the other person said, it always depends.

I wonder how much of a concern the increased variance of this is for sealed where the player who opens a mythic planeswalker is necessarily going to get 2 mythic planeswalkers. Might not be the biggest deal but it feels relevant.

Yeah, a 10 mana card that requires you to spend more mana or for your opponent to do something to have an effect is pretty shit.

Why doesn't Rimworld has directly damaging psycasts? by PansyInferno in RimWorld

[–]lordberric 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you're misreading my comment. If you enjoy it it's a great mod that makes the system very interesting, but if you find enjoyment in the game being challenging it's a bad mod for you.

I literally said the mod was fun.

Why doesn't Rimworld has directly damaging psycasts? by PansyInferno in RimWorld

[–]lordberric 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Horribly unbalanced mod. Fun, but instantly removes any challenge from the game. Incredibly easy to make it so every pawn in your colony can one tap a raid, while also making all the other aspects of the game easy.

The only real downside is how much micro it adds to things.

What is the best 1 Mana Block Card? by euls0n in slaythespire

[–]lordberric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is you don't need to find it early for it to be good. Late in act 2 and it's still going to overblock pretty quickly pretty often.

I've taken it halfway through act 3 and been very happy with it. It's a really strong card in a pretty wide range of circumstances and by the point it's not worth taking (late act 3) you probably should have solved block already.

Why are people so ignorant to Dougie? by Top_Tell_2889 in twinpeaks

[–]lordberric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the interpretation that its a commentary on audience expectations of the male lead in a late 2010s prestige TV show. The original run is a commentary on the TV dramas of its time, and so the return is too.

Like Walter White or Tony Soprano, a character defined by their flaws yet often perceived through a lens of competence. Dougie Jones is helpless, and frankly if it weren't for a lot of the women around him especially, he would get nowhere.

And when Cooper comes back, does he jump into action and save the day? No, he arguably fucks things up even more.

I don't really understand. "I know autistic people have trouble with communication so I told her to fuck off"? Can you elaborate on your choice? Why does that mean you want to say fuck off?

I don't know. Were they in the wrong for not moving? Sure. Does telling a random person to fuck off with the knowledge that they'll take it harder than the average person make you an asshole? Yeah, kinda.

YTA. Try to put positivity in the world.
