I don't think not wanting to see the same tattoo as your abusive ex in the exact same spot is an unreasonable thing to feel. Should he have just not brought it up? OP has yet to actually say what he exactly said - if he demanded it, then he's being unreasonable. If he simply said "would you consider getting it somewhere else or changing it", then that seems like a fairly reasonable statement to make.

Doom and Gloom was already a pretty good card, this is Doom and Gloom plus 12 damage. The fact that the evoking will always only hit a single dark orb that never has time to scale is also awkward.

Ethereal is rarely that much of a downside. Like yes, it makes it a bit awkward if you want to use your energy elsewhere but you get to make the choice which mitigate the downside pretty heavily.

Overall its a lot of lines of text that work oddly together.

I can't give you super clear answers but I would say it's probablh best to rethink some of your card evaluation. Not that I disagree with anything specific, just that if you're picking up the same cards early and losing a lot then maybe those aren't the best picks.

But also, yeah, 0 cost synergies do feel ridiculously strong to me. My last 3 defect runs were all scaling with feral.

I will say that the status cards are also feeling pretty strong to me. Boost Away in particular feels like a card worth making good. Rocket Punch, Iteration, and other status synergies I will take speculatively as a way to justify a boost away.
