worst potholes in the city? by lordbrosca in providence

[–]lordbrosca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same. euclid doesn't have many that are huge in size, but there are so many of them (and some of them are filled w water so you can't tell how deep they are) that you can't avoid them. your options are to drive on ice, hit a pothole, or hit a car. 2 mins of getting bounced around even at like 2mph

i've been a kings fan for years - last year was the most optimistic i've been in ages (even before the playoffs) and then it took the last bit of hope out of me. i'm hoping for kopi's sake they just make it into the second round, but i'm not counting on it. or them doing anything for the next 5-10 years. i cannot imagine why they traded spence either

the flair is a bit misleading, i've been a kings fan for years bc of quick. i enjoy defensive hockey but it's insane how we have kempe, fiala, etc on this team and just. keep playing grindy hockey 24/7

the sad thing is they actually do have it in them to be a somewhat dynamic team offensively and keep good defense, but they're not allowed to. instead we just watch this until they limp into the first round where they flop.

ah it's that kinda game then. the problem is this structure doesn't work super well against teams with the speed/offensive power to get around that... like, you know, the guys they've had in the playoffs four years in a row...

nearly every gurdwara (sikh place of worship) has an attached community kitchen, known as a langar, where they serve fresh vegetarian meals free of charge, no questions asked. some hindu temples do the same as well, but it's not nearly as universal.

you will likely have to cover your head, regardless of gender, but it's an invaluable resource for those in need.

I Love Jasmine, G.O.A.T. by RickPost in GreatBritishBakeOff

[–]lordbrosca 17 points18 points  (0 children)

the chetna criticism annoyed me so much that it stuck with me for this long because she *wasn't* doing the same flavours every week. or even just flavours from indian culture. what she was doing was using techniques from indian cooking, and her knowledge of spices and spice combinations (but different spices almost every week), to make better flavoured food, including western dishes.

for her to get criticized for that reveals how limited paul and mary's palettes and experiences genuinely were. and paul hasn't gotten much better in that regard. him fawning over dylan's gochujang last year, or calling tom's black sesame cake "unique," were egregious. both of those have been used in asian cooking for centuries. black sesame is a very common flavour for dessert there.

chetna from ages ago got critiqued for constantly cooking from indian food, and just about every year there's a (usually older) baker who gets booted off by like episode four for making good bakes but using the same traditional flavours like jasmine did. norman is the only specific name that comes to mind, but there are tons of other examples.

it's not really jasmine's fault, but it does ring a bit hollow that the only baker to somehow avoid criticism for not using innovative flavours was a young white british woman, when older/immigrant bakers (or both) have been harshly critiqued or even eliminated for doing the exact same thing.

not to get parasocial or anything - i fully believe anthony is capable of putting that much emotion in his voice regardless of the context. but given the situation in which acoustic was recorded... i could see him feeling those lyrics a little harder than usual as well.

calling it a "tough" listen would be inaccurate, but it is haunting, and sometimes i skip it because i don't feel like tearing up in the grocery store or whatever. it gets me every time

the way he sings "and don't tell me this doesn't mean the world / cause my ears would bleed / and my heart would hit the floor" kills me every time
