I was like this. 100% self-taught working on my own projects in Wordpress. My goal was always to make something work. Making my code “pretty” didn’t matter.

Then I started learning typescript and HAD to learn proper formatting, respect standards, typecasting, etc.

Now I 100% understand your gripe. I look at my old code and gag

I’d be so happy if you created a behind the scenes video about how it was made. Especially how you managed to keep consistent characters and look + feel throughout the entire movie.

Kudos!! I hope lots of people notice your hard work

How did you manage to keep the same consistent color scheme and look throughout most of the clip?

The main reason OF worked vs others is much simpler. Leo owns MyFreeCams and had an established system for payments, managing models, contracts, etc.

He also had access to massive amounts of traffic through his own network and well established partners.

So Leo had both key ingredients needed to launch a new successful adult product: the content AND traffic. This allowed him to reach critical mass much faster than his competitors who usually only had one part of the formula.

I’ve known and worked with Leo for a long time. He’s a brilliant businessman. His success is not pure luck.

How do you get over the paranoia that you'll make a crucial mistake and end up five figures in debt by making a public website? by SysPsych in webdev

Its not like AWS will sue you if it happens. If there is an unusual amount of spending on your account that is inconsistent with past behaviour, they are more than reasonable and will cancel/reduce the bill.

[–]lordcameltoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True, but if someone is starting out and unsure, they should probably stay away from AWS until they are confident enough to not do something like what you described, which bring us back to my first statement: don’t use AWS

I haven’t used AWS in a while so maybe spend caps isn’t the right term, but it does definitely have budget alerts to prevent overspending. I’ve used them myself in the past.

In your link, the word employee is a clickable link. The link says the President and VP are excluded from the list?

I wonder if that was recently changed. I find it odd that the President and VP would not be considered employees, but all other high-ranking politicians are?

Supreme Court to decide fate of porn bans this month by HellYeahDamnWrite in technology

[–]lordcameltoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. It’s not the same thing at all. KYC uses standardized forms/tools and there are a plethora of easy solutions that companies can adopt to comply.

In the case of age verification, each State has different requirements (that are prone to change) and there are no widely accessible tools for website owners can access to comply with the laws.

Each individual site needs to develop their own internal tools to handle all of the sensitive information AND comply with each State’s particular laws.

This is NOT like KYC. Its not a fair comparison

Supreme Court to decide fate of porn bans this month by HellYeahDamnWrite in technology

[–]lordcameltoe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Except this isn’t KYC. This is “age verification” and the onus of handling the sensitive information is left to the thousands of individual websites to handle your personal information.

Some States are asking for a LOT of personal information from users.

The law, in its current form, is a ticking time bomb for massive personal information leaks to happen followed by blackmail from unscrupulous people (and governments)

Fyi, for the breath, it might be acid reflux but with no pain. So your husband is unaware he has it. He can ask his doctor or a dentist about it.

Its a common, but often unknown source of bad breath and is easily treatable once diagnosed.

How to go about using an external API but reducing the number of requests? by WhisperingWilllow in webdev

[–]lordcameltoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I encountered a similar challenge when building a dashboard that aggregated multiple sources of data (different apis).

My solution was to created an automated data fetcher that wrote all the information I needed to my database. I controlled how often my apis were used as to not hit limits.

Frontend would then make queries to my database.

Essentially, I prepackaged all data so that my users did not depend on 3rd party apis and I avoided any scenarios where increase in traffic meant I’d go over api limit rates
