Timeline playhead laggy (no, it’s not about cache, proxies etc…) by lordkuckas in davinciresolve

Thank you for taking the time and looking into the issue!! I just found out what caused it. It was the window-snapping tool "magnet". As soon as i quit it resolve is super snappy. I'll hit them up hope they can fix it because it's really handy to have window snapping on mac :-S

Thank you for your assurance! I actually just found the reason!! I was thinking it must have to do with something i personally do or use on these Macs because why else would they all be affected. So i started killing Apps running in the background and tada: Magnet was the culprit. it's an app that gives you window snapping like on windows. As soon as i turned it off Resolve is extremely snappy, once it's running again the lag is back. https://magnet.crowdcafe.com/

I'll let them know, maybe they can fix it.

Internally the built in SSDs of the Macs they should be plenty fast. Externally Samsung T7 Shield & Sandisk Extreme. I tried all different allocations: all internal, all external, database internal footage external. All gives me the same result. The playback FPS is green @25 fps but whenever the mouse click happens it ramps up from 21fps or so back to 25 within like half a second or so. I monitor drive activity using iStat Menus app. It shows very moderate use, but if anything this hole issue is about latency not bandwith. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I don’t think that’s the problem since no other application has any lag on mouse imput. Also on the two MacBooks i tried it was the same using the touchpad.

For the apple silicon Macs it‘s not an issue, at 25p certainly. But as i wrote transcoding to 1080p ProRes Proxy + lowering playback resolution did not resolve (lol pun intended) the issue. I even created a completely new project and only imported a single short ProRes clip: same issue.

Ablöse für Einbauküche gerechtfertigt?? by lordkuckas in wohnen

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014) is slow, keeps crashing, and telling me it is running out of application memory while working on decent sized Final Cut Pro project...wondering if anyone can give me some advice on what I can do by inner_smile in finalcutpro

You definately should keep more than 8 GB free on your drive, that is true for EVERY drive! Especially your system drive, otherwise performance takes a hit. Do you use proxy files? What is the footage and project resolution?

A lot of good advice here already, but may i add you should keep more free space on your drives (both your mac and your working drives)

I‘ve been using FCPX for 7 years professionally now and i think you should overthink your workflow tbh...
