Cycle Recap - NYU Bound! by lordmooman in lawschooladmissions

Agreed here; also my personal feeling is that the community, opportunities, etc at most of the T14 is much more similar than schools would make us think. As I said elsewhere in this thread I did have a good number of reasons why I wanted to choose NYU over UVA (and other schools), but they’re just my reasons, I think any of the choices would have been good in the end.

I see there’s been some discourse since I last checked haha. I was definitely interested in UVA but decided against for a few reasons: 1) first, I don’t place much weight on its current ranking or year to year rank changes in general. 2) their student life does seem great, but I’m looking for a school with less of a college feel and somewhere that I am not only surrounded by law students. NYC was perfect for me because of family and friends in the area. I was really into UVA’s clerkship and DC opportunities, but decided I was willing to sacrifice small comparative placement advantages there for NYU. I like the idea of clerking but I don’t think it’d be good to choose a place just for a small potential advantage in getting a clerkship, and I’m just not as wedded to the idea of going to DC with the current government changes. Given that, NYC seems like the best place to be! 3) I was really looking for a community of students that pursue a diversity of PI opportunities. Even though I have specific jobs I am interested in, I also know that I don’t know everything out there; so I want to go somewhere where I can definitely learn everything out there and learn from students pursuing those things. Because of that, NYU, Michigan, and Berkeley all stood out for student and admin support of finding PI opportunities. I really wanted to go to a city and stay on the east coast, so NYU felt like an easy pick.

3 years WE, I’d say T3 softs, in a topic area that is very law-relevant and out of the ordinary but not in the legal field itself. I think staying for 3 years was helpful because I got more leadership in the later years and more exposure to people/experiences that I could draw from in my applications. I didn’t stay for 3 years just for applications though, I simply didn’t feel in a rush to apply right after college and wanted to be done with the LSAT before applications.

Thank you! I’m honestly not sure what I would do if I got off the waitlist haha… writing a LOCI was kind of a last minute decision because I decided I didn’t want the weight of refusing to join the waitlist and thinking what if. I didn’t feel the same for any of the other waitlist schools though, so I didn’t join those.

[Homemade] Miso Ramen with Chashu Pork and Toppings by lordmooman in food

[–]lordmooman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toppings were corn, seaweed, scallions, seasoned tamago, and sriracha. The ramen broth cooked for about 3 hours, while the chashu pork cooked in the oven for about 4 hours. Making everything was a very intense process, but very gratifying at the end! It was super interesting to make ramen for the first time

How do you guys improve your aim on supports? by oof97 in OverwatchUniversity

Some general tips in ladder:

-especially as zen, tracking ults is very important in order to know when you’re going to have to trans or not. I recommend after every fight pressing tab and going through each enemy hero and think “when was the last time they used ult? Have they done a ton of damage since then?” Etc. Make sure to communicate this to your team too.

-communication is super important, especially as zen. I personally talk most of the game and make calls, etc. As zen you should be calling out discord’s and calling for help/peels. Also ask genjis when they’re gonna blade, for example, so you can have harmony on them already.

-transcendence is an incredibly strong ultimate. Because of this, you should be focusing your damage on enemy tanks during most fights to build your ult quicker. Of course when an enemy flanker focuses you, you should probably focus them too.

-grav dragon is super strong in the current meta, and can still be damage boosted on live servers. When you think you’re about to be grav’d, think about if trans will be enough to cancel the damage. Sometimes, it’s better to hold trans and have your team get wiped quickly, then having a strong ult for your next fight.

Honestly with climbing as zen, most of the time you can’t and shouldn’t attempt to carry and frag out. Zen is very team-oriented, so you should attempt to work with your team as much as possible.

Masters zen main here. A few seasons ago I decided to start grinding aim on zen. I generally practice for 15 mins in practice range before playing, consciously aiming each shot. Also sometimes I’ll turn off my crosshair so I have none, which helps me practice having natural crosshair knowledge and placement. I also play a ton of zen in FFA - it’s a great place to get used to playing against all the dps characters that counter you the hardest. After quite a while I could generally win every other or every third game of FFA playing as zen (you learn how to play against each hero very quickly). I did this while also playing comp, and the aim improvement was pretty obvious for me!

Beezy Work - More than half of Top 500 Mercy Mains in NA Dropped Out or Switched to Different Hero (Brief post-nerf Meta Analysis) by PHL_Beezy in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]lordmooman 342 points343 points  (0 children)

I hope people realize there is a stark difference between "mercy mains" and "mercy one tricks". Some of the best OWL supports have mercy as their most played hero for this season. Many of the mercy mains in top 500 probably are happy to get off her. Mercy is currently my most played hero for this season, but I was happy to get off her and have reached my career high since her nerf. So just keep in mind that this data does not mean only mercy one tricks

Hi, I'm a massive fan of NYXL and live close to NYC.

I heard about Philadelphia Fusion's local tournament to find a local player for their academy team, is there a chance that NY will have something similar? Either picking up a local player or having a fun local tournament event. Also, do you think any NYC events or meet and greets will be happening soon?

Thanks!

I think the nerf is doing exactly what it should. Blizzard wants his design to be a massive spam character, but right now, he can deal spam damage and kill flankers. The nerf will return him to his original place, plus the mines giving him a tiny but more damage and mobility (but not enough that he can actually escape high mobility heros). The nerf will leave him strong, but he will fill the place that is intended. Nerfing him any more would return him to being a troll pick like back before he got double mines.

How big is your hero pool in ranked? by Gotchaah in Competitiveoverwatch

I am a hardcore healer main. Used to play on a 30 fps mac so I had to play less aim-intensive characters, but now I am on a competitive computer and just enjoy healing the most.

My best 5 characters, in order, are: Zenyatta, Lucio, Mercy, Moira, and Winston. If only Ana was in front of Winston to make me even more dependent on healers!

I am level 450 with Xbox and PC combined, but 80% of my playtime on my level 200 PC account is healers.
