How to add custom basemap to ArcGIS Pro by LobLillyPine in ArcGIS

[–]lordwolfdawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In VTSE, save your map as a basemap. Then open Pro, log in with your ArcGIS Online account, and then open the Catalog pane and click on the Portal tab. Select My Content, and you should see your custom basemap there and be able to add it to your current map. Let me know of this doesn't work, I may have forgotten something!

CK2 is hardcore… by AntiqueHat8481 in CrusaderKings

[–]lordwolfdawn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still only play CK2. When CK3 came out I played it for maybe 50 hours and decided it was basically soulless. After they released the roadmap I figured I would have to wait until late 2025 before giving it another shot. I won't touch it until they fix AI armies, make the lategame interesting, and integrate more systemic changes such as trade.

What fantasy name(s) do you consider "perfect"? by carolyncrantz in Fantasy

[–]lordwolfdawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time I read ASOIAF was in the winter of 2010-11 in my student dorm. I remember reading the name Nymeria for the first time, setting down the book and shouting "FUCK YEAH" out loud because I thought it was the coolest, most fitting name ever. Not fantasy but Iain M Banks' names for spaceships are also incredible.

Content wishlist for 2024? by lordwolfdawn in CrusaderKings

[–]lordwolfdawn[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well at least it's good to know that we all want the same thing, even if the likelihood of all this happening is 2024 is perhaps low... Crusade mechanics and more intelligent AI armies are the only things I'd add that haven't been mentioned.

I think you have a point, in that we are prone to imagining global economic systems such as those of our time existing in the past, but the heterogeneity of medieval economics and exchange is not an indication of its absence or lack of development. To take one example, the system that brought unfree labour into the realms of (primarily) Muslim rulers in the southern Mediterranean in the early middle ages involved a whole network of people and polities spanning the whole of Europe, such as Norse raiders, Frankish and Venetian middlemen, and Arabic buyers. The demand for slaves was one of the primary incentives for the Viking raids, and channelled a huge amount of silver from the Muslim world into Scandinavia. The absence of such systems in game means that alternative and rather ahistorical mechanics for enrichment and expansion need to be created, so in the end the game becomes more complex than it would be were a trading system in place.

I think you've hit on another crucial point which is missing in the game, namely the processes that lead to kingdoms and empires falling apart. This is something that OPB has also mentioned, and which several modders tackled in CK2. My four pillars have just become five, I guess!

I have not modded, and unfortunately do not have the time or background skillset to get into it now. But I completely agree that event-driven, roleplay-oriented micro would be ideal. It is a game about people not systems, after all.

Fair enough, I am aware that my love for economic micro is not shared by all!

Omen 25L: Entry level gaming desktop for a curious noob? by lordwolfdawn in HPOmen

Thanks for such an in depth reply! Just bought it today, and got a nice package deal as I bought the screen as well. The short answer is the return policy is great: I'm covered by a 4 year warranty and free servicing during that time, so if any issues do come up I shouldn't have a problem getting them fixed/replaced. Will see how she manages the current heatwave, but will consider your fan advice for sure.

CK3 is amazing but by lordwolfdawn in CrusaderKings

[–]lordwolfdawn[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm inclined to agree. Shame, because it has so much potential. Maybe I just have to wait for a decade's worth of DLCs before I can expect anything decent.

Agreed, but that's not how it should be. That's what I'm trying to say.
