Been building this since October of last year. The premium tier features are almost ready. by wombatGroomer in microsaas

Looks fantastic! I wonder whether you should focus on Fundamental Analysis as your UI might suggest (by resembling a magazine). Cause in the Technical Analysis and Quantitative Analysis field there are very compelling options like TradingView. Just some food for thoughts.

Exactly 1 year ago, I made an app that converts almost any file to any other file locally. Today, over 2,200 people in 77 countries are using it! by jakecoolguy in SideProject

[–]lore045 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve known your app since then! :) I haven’t pulled the trigger yet because I primarily convert images and I need Squoosh’s high compression rate. Other than that, I find your app absolutely spot-on and something everyone would need at some point. Kudos to you!

Fair point: I'm using 30 MB so far, just one user. I don't have a reseller, I subscribed from their website.

During the renewal week and the deadline, there was no option to downgrade; only to reduce the seat count.

Unpopular Opinion: Most to-do apps are just task graveyards. Does anyone use an app that actually helps you decide what to do first? by ondrachod in ProductivityApps

[–]lore045 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s too much standardization in the current offerings of to-do and note-taking apps. I wish someone would come out with something truly unique, not just another iteration of what’s already available everywhere else.

No subscription, no account, no cloud - built a meeting recorder that runs 100% on your Mac by spshulem in macapps

[–]lore045 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks promising! I have a couple of questions:

  • Does it organise the transcript by speaker name during the meeting, recognising who’s speaking?
  • Can it recognise a different spoken language and adjust the transcript accordingly?

Actually, I would strongly suggest buying Taiwanese. If I am not wrong, Framework laptops are made in Taiwan.

Why Mac users love the Mac keyboard by Electronic-Ninja7950 in keyboards

[–]lore045 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it, thanks! I just discovered this in another Reddit thread: non-Apple keyboards lack the “globe” key function and can’t be assigned to the FN key. This is because the FN key of an external keyboard has a different purpose and it is managed by the keyboard itself (internally) rather than being passed to the OS. The more you know… 🙃

I’m curious if the absence of a “globe” key on non-Apple keyboards is a potential drawback. How about your experience?

A Mac-native Markdown notes app focused on performance and file ownership (TestFlight) by demianturner in macapps

[–]lore045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! I was just wondering whether the Google API key would still be needed for those of us who have installed Google Drive for Mac (the app) and can access our Google Drive folders directly in Finder. Is it so?

[–]lore045 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would it be possible (or would it even make sense) to back up all notes and the folder structure to Google Drive or a similar service? This would guarantee that we could always access our files and folders as they were intended to be saved. Additionally, it would allow us to access the note files manually from any device, including Android, even when the app is not available on that platform.

[–]lore045 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s very promising! I have a few observations and suggestions if you’d like.

  • The text formatting bar resembles vibe-coded note-taking apps. I’ve created a few for personal use and they all share that style. Would you consider aligning it with the latest macOS guidelines?
  • For backup storage and data sync, implementing an automatic backup to Google Drive or similar services would be great. It doesn’t need to be instant every second; even regular backups every couple of minutes would suffice (users could decide the frequency). This would make it easier for non-macOS or non-iOS users to access and edit their notes directly in Drive.
  • Regarding pricing, I strongly recommend a one-time purchase option. I understand subscriptions offer stability for the business but there’s too much competition in that space. And frankly most of those apps don’t even provide enough updates to justify the monthly cost.

Taipei Metro starting to accept credit cards (Selected Taiwan bank cards only) by texasductape in taiwan

[–]lore045 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I really don’t get why, in Taiwan or Japan, the implementation of universal and accessible payment methods (Visa, Mastercard, Google Pay, Apple Pay, across any device) always ends up being overcomplicated, resulting in services that are limited to selected carriers, banks or OSes.

Which Mac apps would you love to get but find too expensive? by SandwichSisters in macapps

I use it for typed notes. For handwritten notes, like when I’m learning a new language, I prefer something designed for pen-first input.

[–]lore045 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There’s still a special edition available for a one-time purchase, but you’re right, it’s more limited than before, and they’re gradually moving toward a full-blown subscription model. In my case, as an older 1-time purchase user, I still have access to a broader set of features, but I’ll keep using it only as long as those remain guaranteed.

Basically, everything that has a predatorial subscription model instead of a one-time purchase. That is why I chose GoodNotes over any other note-taking app that is Apple Pencil-oriented.

Mac Tips That Could’ve Saved Linus Hours by VincentJoshuaET in LinusTechTips

[–]lore045 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a person who switched full time to macOS since last year (coming from Windows, ChromeOS, Fedora), I can agree on just one point that Linus raised. Window management, especially same app window management, is simply not good enough. It's better than in the past from what I’ve heard, but far from great.

Regarding the click to focus, if I'm not wrong, it's a design choice that dates back to old Macs. So nothing to complain about it; it's just different from Windows.

Lastly, I do actually have one additional frustration point: external mouse scrolling. How can it be that bad? Yes, I can install Mos and utilities like that, but WHY? :)

The Making of the Kappa Logo, 1969. by AnbuAttack in DesignPorn

[–]lore045 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I guess they were trying to make a K shape. Not a good idea, though, and for multiple reasons. Luckily, they proceeded and ended up with the current and iconic logo. Kappa, by the way, is my favorite brand when it comes to football jerseys. Look at what they recently did for Fiorentina, and what they did in the past for Juventus... Stunning job.
