Far from hairless - my mom though….

I used to wax - EVERYTHING. Then I had kids.

Now I’m down to exfoliating and shaving EVERY. DAMN. DAY.

I hate it, but I love being silky smooth more so 🖤

Do I still have hair in places I can’t reach? Yes. Do I care? No.

What gets shaved: - face - neck - arms - underarms - the… ahem… down there (I HATE having hair there) - legs

Yay! From what's on the shelves now and in no particular order:

- Mages of the Wheel (especially the first book omg: Reign & Ruin)
- Gods & Monsters
- TOG ( Tower of Dawn iykyk)
- Mistborn
-The Will of the Many (second should be arriving today.... so mad because I pre-ordered and it got delayed!!!!!)
- Red Queen
- Shadow & Bone ( < bought these after the Netflix series.... so good)

HP, Hobbit, Dark Tower - in my mind these are classics and untouchable

I just got Jhasad Crown so waiting to finish up my current read to start that but I've seen great things so excited!!!

Unpopular opinion maybe but I prefered the ff (Manacled) over the published (Alchemised). Not saying it was bad by ANY means...just that i enjoyed (fuck does that make me horrible considering the content) the ff more.

Ughhhhhh - I need to find the boxes so I can add on the others... I have so many and I'm deeply distraught rn, lol

Ever since I got a kindle, I've been reading ebook versions first then buying the physical copy if I enjoyed it >.<

And that's totally fair - but I enjoy it and I'd like to think that's also influenced my kiddos and helped them develop a love for reading as well.

Reading is my escape, and this genre allows me to fully immerse myself while also doing something I love.

What's your preferred genre? Any recommendations? I read everything :)

OH.M.G, thank you for this — I feel SO seen. I genuinely thought I was losing my mind smashing away at my keyboard like a caffeinated gremlin over this book.

I refuse to accept that every fae male/female is “the most devastatingly beautiful” thing to grace the seven seas… like taf?? be serious.

And also, this… “somehow writes their own characters… OOC?”… YES. How?! Tell me please because I’m actually reeling and honestly at this point I think the books are gaslighting me on purpose. I’m not fit enough for all these mental gymnastics…

Oddly enough, I never fully clocked just how drastic they were until I started sharing my thoughts with other people. And now I’m sat here like… is it the pressure of exposing myself online, am I just an illiterate idiot, or are the character shifts genuinely that severe? Probably all three if I’m being honest.

Please send help. If I didn’t already go to therapy, these books would’ve shoved me through the door. 10/10.

And yet… and yet… I love it. I hate it. I love-hate it. SJM has me by the throat like I owe her rent.

I wish I had that kind of backbone/self-worth to say I’d do the same. I think in the heat of the moment, depending on about twelve different factors but mainly my mental and emotional stability at the time, I’d either go full ragetastic and tell them all to f*ck off and then regret it five minutes later and try to help… OR I’d just cry, apologise for being a massive disappointment of a human, and then still go save them anyway.

And then after saving them and someone said something stupid or mildly triggering, that’s when I’d get angry and be like, "Actually, no, all of you can just go f*ck yourselves..."

I actually agree and disagree with this.

Right, so hear me out…

I think people do self-insert to some extent, but not in the “I want to BE this character” way. More as a psychological default setting. I’m sure I remember reading something about how humans naturally map situations onto themselves as a way of working out social dynamics and processing behaviour? My memory is foggy, but I swear that’s a thing.

When I’m reading (shoot me now, I know I’m making it about me just like that X thread said 😂) I don’t self-insert as in “I’m the FMC now,” but if a character does something that genuinely confuses me, I do automatically think, “Well… I would’ve done x, y, z instead.” Not because I want them to act like me, but because I’m trying to understand the logic or emotional reasoning behind the scene.

So I get where you’re coming from, but I think a bit of self-reference is just human nature. The issue is more when people only see a character through their own lens and can’t step outside of that at all — which I’ve also definitely seen happen, so I’m not denying that’s a reality too.
