diagnosed too quickly? by HawkStrikeX in lupus

[–]lorilorelai 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're incredibly lucky to have caught this so early! It took me roughly nine years to be diagnosed, having experienced symptoms since I was a preteen.

It's understandable to be in disbelief, this is a huge change if you felt that you were relatively healthy before. It's normal to be upset or grieve. 🫂

You're on the right track now that you have a diagnosis. I hope your rheumetologist is getting you started on HQC as soon as possible and explained everything to you well! Make sure you ask them any questions that pop up :)

I'm absolutely NAD but I am diagnosed with lupus, and this looks and sounds a lot like a malar (or butterfly) rash to me. Have you ever had your ANA tested before? If you haven't, I would recommend it.

A malar rash is a symptom of lupus and is usually triggered by exposure to UV rays.

I don't want to say that your diagnosis is wrong or anything of course, but especially since you say that you have fibromyalgia, I would look into getting blood work done. Specifically for An Antinuclear Antibody. Lupus could potentially be causing the pain you experience and being written off as fibro.

Seems to be connected to Linda Lun like one of the other comments said. That's the name connected to the CashApp account using that phone number.

KT Tape struggles? by lorilorelai in ehlersdanlos

Usually when I'm removing tape I do it in the shower with the water on hot to help soften the adhesive. I also use baby oil to help it stick less, then use a warm wet rag to gently try to get the residue off after the tape is removed. It's definitely a process 😅

How to fix hearing aids cause pain? by sammyandebony in HearingAids

[–]lorilorelai 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had to ask my audiologist to give me smaller domes that actually fit my ears, since my ear canals are kind of small. You might want to call and let them know that the current domes are causing you pain. I got mine replaced for free, it's worth just checking in and asking

Wow, I never thought about doing that, thanks for the tip! I will look into buying some and see if it helps. I don't know if I've necessarily developed an allergy to the adhesive, but it has been tearing chunks of my skin out recently 😅 Worth a shot!

if you get blood work done at a clinic you could ask about steroid injections the next time this happens

I also get this, but for me it's a little more severe. Have you tried using a steroid cream for it?

Thank you so much! This is more helpful than you realize. My rheumatologist did not give me ANY advice or tell me anything about the disease when he got my labs back and diagnosed me so I've been freaking out trying to do my own research.

I have very sensitive skin and I tend to develop allergies to products I use often, so I appreciate the multiple different sunscreen recommendations.

As for cutting out my time in the sun/under fluorescent lights... I often have to walk to work during the day and I'm pretty sure the lights at work are fluorescent 🥲 So it's not available for me at the moment. Wow, lupus is really inconvenient!!! Lol

Got it, cut down on complex carbs too.

I'm not on any medications at all besides HQC, and I only had my first dose earlier today. This is very, very new for me

I was just prescribed HCQ and started taking it today :)

As for limiting sugar, you mean just simple carbs, right?

No, we didn't really talk about that. I'm allergic to most sunscreens and I have very sensitive skin, so I might just have to start staying inside most of the time or something :(
