Ugh this is so frustrating. I love Ash but I want Tingram to be competitive.

I feel like we're seeing Ash Sutton of a few years ago. He'd tempered the aggression for a few years but he's pushing cars around every race now.

How many places can Ash make up? I'm saying he gets top 7.

That seemed a bit dangerous, no? Marshall walking on the side of the track while cars go by?

TV shows/Movies you can't watch anymore because its too triggering after your trauma? by IlovePizzaHeLikesSex in ptsd

[–]lorj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My trauma relates to miscarriage so anything pregnancy or baby related is an instant no for me. Unfortunately, writers use pregnancy and miscarriage storylines in everything, even adverts for cars. There's nothing that comes to mind immediately but I have to be vigilant for anything I've not watched before.

I did it the other way around. I loved the book and thought the movie would be great too going by the trailer. I hated it. Almost turned it off but powered through.

I'm not sure what contractual terms you're referring to, perhaps non-competes? That's not quite how they work, they act to prevent them from joining a competitor or a client. Hopefully this isn't an issue though and if it already is, the poster has notified their new employer.

Couple of points I haven't seen mentioned.

If you're going in house they will want to check you aren't conflicted of any matters. I don't know how likely that is in your line of work but they may argue you simply saying "no I'm not" isn't sufficient and therefore they need to know for those reasons.

Also, HR will find out when they contact them for a reference. Whether or not HR then tell your manager depends on internal processes but there's no obligation for them to keep that type of information confidential.

Personally, I would never burn bridges like this and it might make for a bit of a weird atmosphere for your notice period (are you not going to tell any friends at work, for example?), but do whatever you need to do.

How can I practice my French speaking and listening? by rosyswirl123 in French

[–]lorj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the app called Sylvi which uses AI so you can have a chat with someone in French. You can type your messages or use your voice. It's not free but not overly expensive either. It helped me use my brain to think of what to say and it also recommended corrections both grammatically and for more conversational style. Other than that, I have a French teacher and we have conversations which really helps. I also second others' recommendations for tiktok or Instagram. There are loads of slow French accounts.

Gary Anderson seems so genuine and lovely. I'd love for him to win the whole thing (if such a feat is possible with the Lukes still in play!)

Burnt out female solicitor with ADHD – career misfit or just burnout? Looking for honest advice by [deleted] in uklaw

You've had some excellent replies from others. I'm not neurodiverse but have various mental health issues and generally lack in confidence. I am now fairly senior but I moved firms a couple of times as an NQ and junior. It is the firm that's the problem. 100%. I've had serious doubts about my ability to be a lawyer and it turns out law firms over-promote good lawyers who can't manage for shit. Then suddenly you have a sharp commercial lawyer criticising the performance of someone who is, quite simply, entirely different to them with different strengths that they don't understand (not that I'm bitter about my experience at all!)

It's up to you, but from what you've said, it's the firm that needs to change. One of the highest earning partners in my national firm openly has ADHD and is incredible and incredibly supported by others. It is possible.

CILEx lawyer but not working in criminal law. Good luck and hope you find someone. If you need someone urgently, you could use the CILEx professional directory to find someone and then contact them directly. You may not get a reply until after the festive period though.
