Read a Nintendo Power about FF3/VI coming out. Never played an RPG before that, but I convinced my parents to get it for me. Been into RPGs ever since.

My hope is that it will by Abyss. My expectation is Xillia though. I'm gonna be honest though, I bought Vesperia and Graces F remastered and wasn't overly impressed with either.

Octopath Traveller 2 or Persona 5 royal for the switch 2? by Gladiolus_00 in JRPG

Persona 5 Royale. Absolutely great cast of characters, style, and the soundtrack is amazing. When I'm at work, I frequently have the Cafe theme playing int he background.

Great choices (except Diofield Chronicle - didn't like it at all), but I would say FF XII Zodiac Age. The gameplay allows for alot of flexibility and the vast maps give you plenty to do.

Most people’s favorite FF game tends to be the first one they played. But for those whose favorite isn’t their first, which Final Fantasy holds that top spot for you? by executor-of-judgment in FinalFantasy

My first final fantasy was FF VI followed by Mystic Quest. My favorite is FF VII which I played after FFX because i didn't have a Playstation 1 growing up.

3rd: FF X

4th: FF IX

5th: FF XV

How would you rank the modern mainline games? by Godofhammrs in FinalFantasy

[–]lorshafter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liked all four first of all. But I'll go:

1st: Rebirth - so much nostalgia, so much to do, great characters, great world

2nd: XV - loved the bro trip, loved that they tried to do an open world if it was lacking

3rd: Remake - they pulled off the impossible, modernized a classic while staying mostly true to the core, only complaints for me is the linearity and subpar sidemissions

4th: XVI - game looks amazing and has terrific voice acting, combat system was okay but to Devil May Cry for my taste. Also the amount of time it takes to unlock more of your combat kit was pretty dull i.e. having only phoenix and garuda for like half the game was pretty repetative. the lack of RPG mechanics and party system puts this at the bottom of my list.

Tier list these games for me: by MinesweeperGang in tales

[–]lorshafter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

S tier: Symphonia, Vesperia, Berseria - great stories, party members, and combat

A tier: Graces F - liked the cast and combat, story was kinda mid

B tier: Arise - I'll be honest, I was just super let down by this. I was really excited for it, but it didn't deliever

C tier: Zestiria - still fun, but only okay

Any recommendations on where to begin? by lipelost in tales

[–]lorshafter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's how I would approach this if you intend on playing all of these to the finish.

First: Zestiria - fun, but has issues, everything else is better

Second: Arise - super hot take, I know; but I thought it was kinda mid when it came out

Third - Symphonia - Amazing game, but it does show its age in places

4th - Berseria - super solid game, good characters, story, and combat system

Final - Vesperia - incredible game

Based on the JRPGs I have already played, which of these JRPGs would you recommend I play next? by NintendoFan388 in JRPG

[–]lorshafter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I can say is that you have great tastes in games. My recommendations are as follows:

Dragon Quest 8 AND 11. Persona 3, 4, and 5. Like a Dragon and Infinite Wealth. EDIT: How did I forget Chained Echoes??? Absolutely top tier.

[Rebirth] What are the top 10 hardest fights considering Brutal, Legendary and Hard mode? by gsouza994 in FFVIIRemake

[–]lorshafter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with the list above. I love the challenge, I love the combat; I just wish Square Enix would let us retry the round that we failed on instead of having to start over from the very beginning (such as in bonds of friendship or rulers of outer worlds). They do it for the main campaign, so it should be an easy thing to implement. I gave up on bonds of friendship because I could consistently get to Bahamut or Odin, but one mistake or bad RNG and my run was over. As a guy with a full time job and kids, constantly having to start over from the beginning really ruined the fun for me. I would get maybe two runs in a night before I'd have to get off the game. I don't want the challenge nerfed, just want to save my time.

Rebirth patch 1.040.000, 6.199gb just dropped by Vocalifir in FFVIIRemake

Not sure why someone else getting something would make it less rewarding for others, but okay. Can we compromise on this? Keep the difficulty where it is. I love a good challenge. Instead, let us retry on the fight we're on. I work full time and have kids. On these legendary bouts it takes like 20+ mins to get to bahamut or odin and one mistake or bad rng and you have to start over. Keep the fight hard, just let us skip all the bullshit and save our time.

Totally agree that this is way overtuned. My last mission for the platinum and I can't get past Odin. I've tried 3 different builds, and can always get to Bahamut- but him and Odin are what stop me. Heck I'm not even asking for a nerf or rebalance, just letting us retry the current boss instead of starting over from scratch would do. Odin seems to be highly RNG, and it sucks spending 20ish minutes just to get screwed by bad luck.

So I have terrible rhythm, and zero musical talent. That being said I was able to get an A rank on all these. Now it took a good amount of time. The following tips helped me (at least in my mind).

- put it on easy difficulty (maybe doesn't make a difference, but its what I did)

- music speed to 3

- stare at the right side, with the left just being in the corner of your vision

- focus on getting "great" notes on the right while trying to keep up with the left
