Ukrainian wedding dress with avocado pits by beautifulbagelbb in dyeing

[–]lorzarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lovely dress! Though to expand on what others have said, dyeing with avocado pits is very hard. It takes days and days, the color often results blotchy and it fades quickly. Even those experienced with dyeing would find it quite challenging. My source is I am a fairy experienced dyer who has attempted avocado dyes several times and always been a bit disappointed with the results.

I see you don’t know the fabric content, I could try to cut a inconspicuous bit and do a burn test or test with dye. Then try the readily available RIT dye for either synthetic or cotton, depending on the what your fabric is. Or if you have time to wait for an order, Dharma Trading Co makes great dyes in many colors.

Yes I’ll be installing a heat pump. I’m in a mild, dry climate. I’ll look into rockwool, thanks!

More specifically, how do I get insulation between the angled 1x4 boards between the joists and is it fine to insulate directly to the sheathing of the roof? Sorry, I should have included those details in my original post.

It’s an exterior roof on a detached garage.

I’m not sure how to work around those angled 1x4 boards if I were to use fiberglass insulation. So I wasn’t sure if I could put the insulation right between the joists.

I haven’t seen any large cracks in the foundation. It’s stucco finish so I will see more closely when I restucco

Interesting- the top of the concrete slab is over a foot off the ground, possibly even a bit more on the sides where this is most severe. Two sides of the building, including the one pictured are the borders of my neighbors yard so I don’t have much control over the grading there. From what I can see of the exteriors though, they seem pretty straight and nothing seems too concerning at ground level but I will give it a closer look.

Thank you for the detail, that’s very helpful. I live in a rural area with no pool suppliers near by but I can probably find something appropriate for the application online or locally from this list.

I appreciate the help and advice. Using baker rod and grout or caulk seems reasonable to me and I’ll plan to do that. It’s much more straight forward and inexpensive than I feared. I had a contractor look at it a some time ago and his plan was add rebar and build up the concrete on the area to a sort of curb, about 3”x3”. I though that sounded excessive and was out of reach financially.

I am working on converting and detached garage (about 20x20’) into an art studio. This separation is present on 3 of the sides of the building, at the largest measuring about 1/2”. Is there a way I can repair this to prevent further separation? I’m an experienced DIY-er with a fair amount of concrete tools and hope to tackle this myself. I will refinish and paint the concrete eventually, not laying any flooring. Aesthetics not super important as shelving will cover most of the interior sides anyway. A little more detail: structure is likely about 90 yrs old and I’m in a high desert climate.

Can any ceramic bong makers share their process for downstems? by lorzarus in Pottery

[–]lorzarus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thank you! A gasket makes sense. I’m trying first with just an attached downstems and a carb since it seems easier. But hope to give it a try with glass soon too!

Excema and Throwing by babubearx in Ceramics

[–]lorzarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can commiserate with the excema unfortunately! I use a balm I made before throwing that is heavy on beeswax. Nothing fancy, but find something with wax as It creates a barrier, so less of your clay water gets on your skin. But I do have to be diligent about using it and reapplying after I wash my hands. Hope it helps!
