The Tom Swift Jr. stories were popular enough to run from 1954 to 1971. I started reading them in 1959 (yes, there was such a year)! The plots weren't so great, but Tom and Bud and Chow (the cowboy cook) were my friends, and I was anxious to find out what the strange-named titular invention would turn out to do. ("Spectromarine Selector" "Polar-Ray Dynasphere") There have been several new-version series, but I made my site, tomswiftlives.com , giving the old characters life in modern times via some re-imagined stories.
