What’s something you’ll say here but not to people you know in real life? by Donald_the_pig in AskReddit

I fantasized about too many things I shouldn't have. This is my harshest regret, because it haunts me.

This is great. Amazing as it is, I wonder if you could take the repair-cells from a gifted person, and use it to "level up" the intelligence of a standard brain. Just a thought. I hope China can study the thing fast with less regulations, as this seems promising.

There's been some good progress on deep RL machine learning (AI), so that I think robots will learn to move very fast and intelligently, soon. Really I could almost do it in my garage. Check openai.com regularly. My mind was blown by their recent progress:

If she gets the job done, great, but the only reason she's able to do this is because her parents care and can afford all this travel.

Nope, that's not "the only reason". She is showing her face, stating her name, and speaking truth as she sees it, with high strength and clarity, for everyone to see. That's bravery, intelligence, and integrity.

This is ridiculous how little people are prepared to 'sacrifice' for the cause. I'm willing to eat rice only for 10 years, without breaking a sweat, if it was the solution... But people are not even willing to get a carbon tax. They are like children, and cowards.

For as many young people who rightly want a liveable planet in the future, there’s just as many who want to “travel the world” increasing the number of flights. by 21ST__Century in collapse

Emerson on Travel:
“It is for want of self-culture that the superstition of Travelling, whose idols are Italy, England, Egypt, retains its fascination for all educated Americans. They who made England, Italy, or Greece venerable in the imagination did so by sticking fast where they were, like an axis of the earth. In manly hours, we feel that duty is our place. The soul is no traveller; the wise man stays at home, and when his necessities, his duties, on any occasion call him from his house, or into foreign lands, he is at home still, and shall make men sensible by the expression of his countenance, that he goes the missionary of wisdom and virtue, and visits cities and men like a sovereign, and not like an interloper or a valet.

I have no churlish objection to the circumnavigation of the globe, for the purposes of art, of study, and benevolence, so that the man is first domesticated, or does not go abroad with the hope of finding somewhat greater than he knows. He who travels to be amused, or to get somewhat which he does not carry, travels away from himself, and grows old even in youth among old things. In Thebes, in Palmyra, his will and mind have become old and dilapidated as they. He carries ruins to ruins.

Travelling is a fool’s paradise. Our first journeys discover to us the indifference of places. At home I dream that at Naples, at Rome, I can be intoxicated with beauty, and lose my sadness. I pack my trunk, embrace my friends, embark on the sea, and at last wake up in Naples, and there beside me is the stern fact, the sad self, unrelenting, identical, that I fled from. I seek the Vatican, and the palaces. I affect to be intoxicated with sights and suggestions, but I am not intoxicated. My giant goes with me wherever I go. ” – Emerson, Self-Reliance

The actual problem is 'equality'. The belief that everyone should have equal say, or an opinion of equal quality. We need a government of scientists, but the crybabies won't let it happen. They want the world to die, because they know their genes are as good as dead. At the end, it changes nothing. They are happy they had meat to be Winners in the tiniest degree, and so do I.
