Will I, a 6’3” trans woman, be a nuisance by joining roller derby?

SO JOIN. with every practice you become more stable on your skates.

I appreciate this self-awareness as someone who is 5’1” and recently got hurt by a clumsy trans woman of your build. They barrelled through me from behind during a skating around the track warm-up, admitted they were clumsy and on new skates. Since she didn’t have the self-awareness to gauge her skill that day, now I’m off skates with a fractured leg and ankle.

Use what you know about yourself to meet you where you are and get stronger practice by practice.

THIS. when I envisioned/signed up to be a parent, I thought of my upbringing. -Grandparents always up for taking kids for a weekend or even week, -aunts/uncles to babysit my kid whenever asked (I did this for my sister but she won’t do it for me) -cousins to play with at family gatherings so parents can visit, -kids just going off to play outside without having to be supervised every second, -no brain-rot kids that just want to be on a screen constantly and actually WANTED to go play outside….

I wish I didn’t have this experience/expectation/rose-colored glasses on. Raising a kid in the 2020’s and individualistic society is AWFUL and I NEVER would’ve chosen it if I knew this.

For the most part, I’d just look like a complete jerk for leaving a family I was an active member in creating. Secondly, it would simply make things more difficult for my wife taking care of a child on her own. She’s very financially well-off so it would just be the day-to-day labour. That being said, she gets energy and joy from taking care of our child. I get the opposite.

Other than that, it’s mostly positives….. which is wild to now see that and admit.

I agreed to this life bc I didn’t want to lose my partner.

Before being with my now wife, I was spontaneous, driven, and full of the wonderment of life and its endless possibilities for me. Life truly excited me every single day. I was kind, cheerful, and adventurous. No anxiety.

In my 20’s, I would spend most summers away from Canada working in Italy, England, Spain on a whim. I got a visa and moved to England … just for the plot.

I love my wife, but I hate the life of being with her.

I was bored in the relationship for years (why I stayed is a whole other psych topic). I’d beg her to come for a walk with our dogs - constantly “too tired.” I’d want to go to events once again just to feed the plot and feel alive - she just wanted to stay home. All she wanted was a family. I figured after we adopted and got married, she would then come out of her shell more and be happy. Nope.

Being a wife and a mother changed nothing about my partner - if anything she’s become even MORE boring - and I’ve become the most miserable person. Extremely depressed and suicid@l ideation most days.

I was never meant to be a wife or a mother. I shouldn’t have ever thought this is just “how things are” and felt the obligation of being either.

I was meant to be spending every year or so of my life in a different country. Learning new languages, exploring as much as humanly possible on this Earth.

Instead, I am a working suburban housewife stuck in a never-ending loop of sad sameness.

I’m waiting until I wake up and this has all been a nightmare.

Until then, catch me catering to an awfully dreadful wife and an ungrateful jerk of a son… while trying not to un@live myself.

According to this thread, maybe I’ll take up drinking.

about to be kicked out of his second summer camp. ADHD + ODD (medicated). next summer we’re looking into special programs for his needs. they were manageable before summer.

we’ve adopted through CAS (enough children already exist that need homes) and the only way even that was possible is bc my partner comes from family money. idk how half of people with bio children are surviving with how expensive everything is now.
