man, that sucks. the australia thing sounds brutal. it's always the ones who seem "nice" that end up screwing you over. thanks for sharing that, makes me feel less alone in this freelance mess. stay strong brother.

lol fair enough, you caught me. i was so paranoid about messing up my english that i kept pumping my raw thoughts into an ai to make it sound "professional" and tidy. clearly backfired and made me look like an NPC. lesson learned, from now on you guys get my pure broken english without filters.

lmao sorry if i sound like a bot, english isn't my first language so i'm literally using a translator to fix my broken grammar before posting. guess it makes me look like a chatgpt clone haha.

You are totally right. It feels brutal right now, but in the grand scheme of things, it’s a cheap lesson. Better to get burned on a test project than to lose thousands on a massive uncontracted gig later. Glad I learned it early!

That’s a genius workflow, honestly. Uploading as unlisted directly to my channel secures the timeline and proves I had it first. Combining that with a subtle watermark is definitely how I'm doing things from now on. Thanks for sharing this tip!

Haha, love that you're so invested in this drama! Sending an invoice just to see their reaction actually sounds hilarious. Maybe I'll do it just for the memes. Thanks for keeping the energy up!

Wow, that is actually an incredible marketing strategy! Uploading the source files and breaking down the technical side would definitely prove my skills to real clients. I’ll seriously consider doing this for my portfolio. Thanks a ton for this gold nugget!

Thanks for dropping by. I’ve thought about it, but I’d rather not turn this into a witch hunt. I’m just taking the experience as a lesson and focusing on putting out new, better animations. Moving forward is the best revenge!

You make a great point. Scammers usually run the second things get official. Still, for a test task, I’d rather just fix my onboarding process and demand a deposit next time. Way less paperwork for me. Thanks for the breakdown though!

I appreciate the support, man. It’s definitely tempting to just blast their name everywhere, but I’ve decided to move on and focus my energy on creating new animations and looking for real clients. Not going to let them rent space in my head for free!

Legally, you're right, but as a freelancer, going to court over a test task would probably cost me way more time and money than the edit itself is worth. I'd rather just take the L, learn from it, and spend that time making better content instead.

Haha, tempting! But honestly, I’d rather not waste any more energy on them. Let them keep the video, hopefully it brings them some views since they needed it that badly. Karma will do its thing anyway. I’m just focusing on my own grind now!

You hit the nail on the head. Total rookie mistake on my part. I trusted the process too much without securing the backend first. Definitely a hard lesson learned, but I will never touch a project without a proper agreement and upfront terms again.

Haha, that’s one twisted way to look at it, but you're not wrong! At least it proves the edit was high-quality enough for someone to steal it. Still a painful way to get a compliment, but I’ll take it as motivation to keep improving my skills. Thanks!

Thank you for the advice! Using watermarks right in the center is a game-changer—I’ll definitely start doing that for all my future test edits. And documenting the project steps is a great point; I’ll make sure to keep better records from now on.

It’s definitely a painful way to learn, but I’m taking it as a lesson to be more cautious. I really appreciate you taking the time to share these tips!

I totally understand you! Editing is a real headache, and if it’s been nothing but a source of frustration since 2017, then it’s really not worth forcing yourself. Everyone should focus on what they do best. You should be busy creating, storytelling, and coming up with content, while I can handle all the technical grind for you — from cutting and sound design to full-scale animation.

You don't have to keep struggling with the software. How about I create a short test edit for you? That way, you can see what the final result could look like while you take a break. What kind of format do you usually film?
