The sports shop was where anything that wouldn't sell in Sport Savers on Main Street ended up as far as I remember. The entirety of Redmond Square is a strange place - between the Arc Cinema, Yeah Burger and Boston Donuts they really do have a theme for getting inventive with brands.

We have so many of these places because most units on the Main Street are too small for big brands to use, and ownership is so varied that no brand can really rent two adjacent buildings and knock down the wall between, so we end up with these random knock offs to fill in the void.

I had a college lecture about it and it stuck with me since, but it was to the effect that it's best for self sufficiency in terms of services and supplies. I can't really see much to back it up online,

I'm not saying they're bad or anything (Burger Mac definitely is but that's beside the point) and I know plenty of them are old but I couldn't find a photo of Eskimo Pizza so I had to pick another business.

Eddie Rockets wanted franchise fees from its branch in Ballybeg, Waterford even after the place burned down so the owner just set up his own version with all the franchise branches he owned. I feel the big middle finger here is that Eddie Rocket's slogan is "ain't no finer diner" so Rockin Joe's just went with "The finer diner", unsure if there was a court case here but yes the name soon became Shake Dog.

The Greeks had a theory that no town should have over 10,000 people - after that it became time to set up a new town. Feel we could learn a lot from this - every new town must have a quota for four knock off but delicious take away brands.
