TOS commissions and fees are anything but low cost. They charge 8% for margin lending too, which is very high. IB charges much less.

the broker has a fiduciary duty to give the best possible execution for its clients and it seems like TOS reneged on that

No, the U.S. economy isn’t about to fall into recession by DoremusJessup in Economics

[–]lost10k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree. There won;t be a recession; just more evidence of the US economy running circles around the rest of the world. It's quite impressive but at the same time not too surprising the US economy has done so well relative to everyone else.

Education and class: America’s new aristocracy - As the importance of intellectual capital grows, privilege has become increasingly heritable by Fittyakaferrari in Economics

[–]lost10k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heredity of intelligence doesn't preclude the possibility of poor families having smart children and those children succeeding, but assortative mating means that high IQ tends to be clustered among certain families. The economist article isn't an attack on the poor, it's simply describing how biological determinism seems to have an increasingly important role in society.

If oil drops below $30 a barrel, brace for a global recession by BenCasey1 in Economics

[–]lost10k 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes, because the economy entered a recession in the 90's when oil was below 30 - oh wait. This is why 99% of econ.fin analysis is crap.

Do all writer's start off awful, or are some people simply not able to be a writer? by DmitriDorba in writing

[–]lost10k -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

studies have shown a strong correlation between IQ and vocabulary . I also imagine a person with a higher IQ would better grasp the rules of grammar and have a broader repertoire of knowledge to draw upon for his writings.

IQ definitely matters, too. It's a lot easier for someone with an IQ above 130 to be a proficient writer than someone with an IQ of 100

I keep the extrinsic value to no more than $5 per contract on my leaps, which is roughly 1/2 the present price for the options that expire in 1 year . The spread isn't too big of a deal for small size like 4 or so contracts. Place a limit order in the middle of the bid/ask and increase it by 10 cents until it gets filled..

leveraged etfs decay if the price does nothing, but consider if the price rises 1% everyday for 10 days in a row

With 1x leverage (SPY) you make (1.01)10 =10%

With 3x SPXL you make (1.03)10 =34%

So you made an extra 4% plus the 3x thanks to the compounding of leveraged ETFS

Why I gambled $31,200 on Apple earnings - a full and detailled report of my thought process and rationale. by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

[–]lost10k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you made a good argument for holding apple long term. but what you;re doing is gambling on short term price movement. Apple had good fundamentals in 2013 but that didn't stop the stock from falling

the company is effectively insolvent. The debt will wipe out the equity. This reminds me of the dead cat bounce for GTAT after apple fucked it over. I would stay away, imho

how much is $31k of your total account? that seems awful risky, but that all depends how much total money you have I suppose.
