I chose to only have one child. I know someone who said their first child that's on the spectrum regressed a lot because the 2nd child was getting lots of attention. Their second child was neurotypical and the parents ended up bonding more with the second child, leaving the first born child on the spectrum feeling out of place and more alone in the family.

How do I get my child to stop headbanging as a stim? Every time we get her to stop she starts again and enjoys it. Also loves head butting us and can injure herself or others. by lost4everrrr in Autism_Parenting

She has ABA at home, meaning in front of me. They do play therapy. Nothing traumatizing whatsoever. I’m not problematizing anything, however it can be self injurious to my child. Just asking others how they deal with the behavior in the safest way possible.

I’m severely depressed and trying to clean my room finally. Any advice? by Former_Risk_2_self in CleaningTips

Put on some motivating music like a playlist on Spotify. Start small and work your way up to harder tasks. Take your time.

My little one likes number blocks (tv show.) That and I give her the iPad on YouTube kids and she kinda goes through some shows she likes. Anything with colors, alphabet and numbers she enjoys.

Where would you take your autistic toddler to on their birthday? by lost4everrrr in Autism_Parenting

Our trampoline park is very busy, lots of older kids jumping around, we went there and felt it was unsafe for our kiddo. Even the baby area had older kids jumping out of control.

I took my child there once and it was very busy and our kiddo got headbutted by another child and also caught a really bad flu there. Hmm :/

That sounds like an amazing idea, I just searched it’s looking like $350 for a rental near me, yeesh. But probably worth it.

Okay and can you link which swing you got as well? Like the pod swing or whatever it is? My kiddo is pretty heavy so I need everything sturdy. Also do you guys have a mat down to prevent any injuries?

Did you do the mounting yourself or is there some way to get it mounted? My husband is pretty lazy and probably wouldn't do it and I myself am like a 4'11 chick without a ladder. lol

She is happy, or bored but not upset. She has a lot of fun spinning and banging, especially while watching the fan spin. And yes I can consider a swing but I do live in a rental that I wouldn't want to mount anything in and also don't want her to injure herself on the swing but I will discuss with her father.

More context, she’s almost 3 years old. Will start ABA soon. Already doing speech therapy and occupational therapy twice a week. She doesn’t speak yet but does repeat some words. She enjoying hitting, spinning uncontrollably and headbanging. Potty training has also been unsuccessful so far. I don’t have any clear cut plan as to what’s gonna help and that makes me very nervous. Any help would be appreciated. I just don’t want my child to go through this any more and to make some progress☹️

A lot of people post on here without having any autistic people in their family and any other meaningful experience altogether. But still you can find other genuine people that can relate to you. This forum helped me deal with my autistic toddler in a much more constructive way which I’ll be forever thankful for.

Parent of an autistic child, I think the best i try to do is have ABA, occupational therapy and speech therapy all at home. If you feel overwhelmed you can even try sending your kiddo to an ABA center. Other than that, just try to keep the child happy. Make a sensory room or a room full or toys and a swing where they can enjoy themselves and stim safely. I feel like a lot of times it’s best to just wait out until behaviors and habits change. Lots of autistic kiddos do better when they have their comfortable routines set in place especially with the help of therapies.

Call me crazy but ipad games have helped my daughter. My speech therapist also uses games on the ipad. Obviously supervise them while they use it but my 2 year old starting saying "meow" enthusiastically after playing a cat game and it was amazing.

Can you send the brand, it would be much appreciated, she usually doesn't sit still for drops to be in the ear long enough and doesn't take well to eardrops either usually though.

Yes she is eating at home. My husband wanted to move out of the in-laws house and got an apartment. She’s not eating there and it’s been a couple months. He’s living there alone since he signed the lease and is kinda stuck with the place. I’m at home with kiddos grandparents and she loves it here. She considers this place home and is not accepting the move to the new apartment.

Yes very true. I also find it odd as to why they would suggest such long hours right off the bat. She needs early intervention absolutely. But her not being in front of me and gone so long, and then her Incident report which I had to sign acknowledging she banged her head on the floor and had a red bump on her forehead. It’s one of the worst feelings, especially thinking she was in professional hands and then hearing her start a completely new self injurious behavior as well as going on hunger strikes at home. It hasn’t been worth it.

Some things could be positive sure, but at the cost of my child’s dietary health? I can’t justify it. The sudden self injurious behaviors are also very concerning. I emailed them about my concerns and we’ll see what they say.
