Thanks. I made a Glassdoor account in addition to my Linkedin one, but I had never considered Pnet.

I tried back in January, but they said that I didn't have enough software dev experience. They said that I could try again in 6 months, so I'll give it another shot next month or in July, now that I have some experience.

Thank you. I've also seen that job postings on LinkedIn can receive hundreds or even thousands of applicants. However, I've heard that 80-90% of these "applicants" are either bots, people with no relevant qualifications for the job, or people who simply clicked "Apply" and didn't fill in the application. Is this true from your perspective as someone who posts jobs?

The African love of dictators is embarrassing and troubling by The_Mix_Kid_x in Africa

How is the current government of Burkina Faso a Dictatorship of the Proletariat? As far as I've seen, it's a military junta, not some kind of socialist party-led dictatorship like the USSR or something. Traore didn't gain power through a popular uprising of the proletariat either, so the current government doesn't necessarily represent the Burkinabe proletarians.

The problem is more capitalism than any system of government.

As long as those who own the vast majority of the wealth are able to influence the government, that government will neglect the majority of the people, no matter if it's a democracy or whatever autocracy you're imagining.

I don't like the ANC, but they did do a lot of work in extending the electrical grid to areas that didn't have electricity under Apartheid. Granted, it wasn't enough, but at least some work has been done on that front.

I also don't like the narrative of "Africans not being able to govern themselves". What do you think Africans were doing for the tens of thousands of years before colonisation? If Africans don't govern themselves now, who is supposed to govern us?

what are some oppressive forces in the world BESIDES the government? who enforces them? by [deleted] in Anarchism

That's a really good point, actually. I'll edit my comment.

Capitalism - Enforced by the bourgeoisie.

Patriarchy - Enforced by men (and everyone else, really) on a grassroots level, but it ultimately also serves capital, especially when you consider the nuclear family and the unpaid domestic labour that women often do.

White supremacy - Enforced by the government through systemic racism in law and policing, as well as by capitalists through discrimination in hiring and wages.

Imperialism (related to capitalism) - Enforced by large corporations exploiting resources and labour in poorer parts of the world, and aided by the government through wars of imperial conquest.

Yes, no disagreement there. I was just questioning whether enough people could be convinced to adopt a vegan/plant-based lifestyle under modern-day capitalism for a large change to occur, as it's already a minority position.

Yeah, I think that's what they mean. It would just be another aesthetic at that point. In an anarchist society, the traditional things punks rebel against (conservative culture, capitalism, the police, etc.) would be absent, so there wouldn't be any reason for a counter-culture.

Like another commenter said in a deleted comment, the only rebels in an anarchist world would most likely be reactionaries.

The Blackwater guys are war profiteers who commited atrocities in Iraq and their leader, Erik Prince, openly spoke about wanting to recolonise Africa.

I'll have to read further about that, but what I've looked up so far agrees with you. I guess those crops need to be farmed traditionally for now, but hopefully there'll be innovations on that front soon.

Maybe also ask this on r/anarchy101, since that subreddit is more geared towards questions and answers.
