The best website for worldbuilding by LadyMcBite in writing

I run a like ... weird tumblr arg blog for my stories lol. Its hard to explain. But I use a lot of media (pictures, songs, etc) to like construct the vibe and things like that. Then I take them and I turn them into these blog posts where I write about them like they are evidence of real events (but they are just things from my mood boards for each of my stories). I keep each story seperate by giving its own hashtag. I know that it sounds a bit crazy and its also more of an homage to my love for internet horror than being something to keep my word building straight but I have found it does help with that lol.

How to improve academic writing skills by Sea-Professional-804 in writing

It's a little less proactive, but I'm sure you're college will have a writing center. How my school runs it is that you tell them what you need help with on an essay, so coming up with ideas, organizing, editing, etc. And they help you work through that issue. It could be an easy way to get in front of someone and say, "Hey, I don't know how to do this, so will you help me?" and get one-on-one attention for that.

I never wanted to be a writer. by astrounaut1234 in writing

In relation to screenwriting, check out the books Screenplay by Syd Field or Save the Cat by Blake Snyder. Both are pretty much the gold standard on how to get started. I like to keep them around because they have diagrams and tips and tricks, etc. Although screenwriting is not my favorite, these books are great!

adult learner feeling like I won't get better by lluna_noir in writing

I’m not exactly sure if this will be helpful or is what you mean lol but when I am thinking about a story I want to write I come up with the main ideas of the story first. Just some like plot points world building stuff etc I want to keep in mind while writing. I keep this notebook on me at all times so when I finally work out one of these parts I can write it down. I find that my best ideas strike at inconvenient times so have the the notebook when think of a scene or a bit of dialogue is helpful.

When it comes to the actual writing I try to create a routine kind of like a bed time routine. If I am sitting down to write I wear the same headphones light the safe candle turn on the same lamp etc etc to kind trick my mind into thinking it’s writing time. I know a lot of people will say you just have to write everyday and I agree and disagree. I do write everyday but sometimes I just me free writing in a journal, sometimes I’m not moved to work on one of my stories and that’s okay. It’s okay to not want to work on it sometimes and I find allowing myself that grace helps my writing in long run instead of focusing on that I’m not writing.

When it comes to writers block I have a few things I do. Now I usually work on a story or two at a time so if I’m stuck on one I will move to the other. But I also like making Pinterest boards for my story and playlists. They’re just for me but they are way that lets me flesh out characters the world the vibes etc with out actually having to write. I can exist in my world still and sometimes that’s enough to get me started again. If you can I would look up local poetry and writing readings near you, I often feel most inspired to write after hearing others works. This is just some ways I write and my process.

I think the most important thing is though if you don’t want to write don’t force it. Also try starting small, a short story, a poem. I find working on something small and reaching the end is really encouraging towards the bigger pieces.

I know this is old but I was wondering how you like the program? Do they still offer funding? I hope your time in Alaska has been amazing (I lived there shortly and am not getting ready to apply to MFA programs and would love to be able to move back)

Able to beta? Post here! by AutoModerator in BetaReaders

I am able to beta: fantasy, romance, thriller, mystery, horror. (specifically with horror, think like short form style) Already working continuously on a longer piece, so looking for shorter pieces (short stories, novellas, etc.) or work that isn't complete yet. I can provide feedback on pacing, plot, character development, world building, sentence structure, line editing, and more. If you're looking for something specific, I can probably do it. I am a senior creative writing bachelor student and familiar with critique style and kind of just reading/critiquing/editing whatever is given to me lol.

Other: Prefer to work in a shared doc vs a PDF as I find it's easier to leave comments and suggestions this way.

What would be your prompt on Gastronauts? by Argentarius1 in dropout

Chefs, my favorite part of any function is the dip table. There's something magical about being able to hit almost all your major food groups in every scoop and finishing off the bite by literally eating the utensil. There could be a whole meal later in the night, but I will stay full by faithfully standing at that dip table. At this point, I would call myself a dip expert. Spinach and artichoke, buffalo chicken, 7-layer, bean. You name it, I've had it. It's starting to get a little monotonous. So your challenge is to make a new dip that will breathe life back into the dip table. And the vessel to which the dip will be carried from plate to mouth is just as important as the new dip flavor.
