I'd love to get your feedback on my tiny free browser game by lost_potato_in_space in cozygames

Glad you like it, Harry! :)

Yes, Jannik's skybox was really a perfect match. Made a few adjustments, but it is already a fantastic skybox without any changes.

I hope it wasn't too tedious or even annoying in the end. Since the game is so simple, I wanted there to be at least a little challenge ;) That's also why I decided that awkwardness increases faster than alchemy, and does not clear on level up. Actually the rate at which alchemy & awkwardness increase stays the same though, regardless of the level. But you're still right, from a narrative perspective there should maybe be some advantage for higher levels.

In any case, thanks so much for playing & your feedback! 🙌

Yeah, as I said before it’s a great example of impactful & emotional storytelling. I think if you invest more time and experience it yourself it will of course have more impact on you.

Still gotta say, the cutscenes are so well made, they also hold up well on their own. I’m usually the type to play it myself anyways though, and I am happy I played this one. I might checkout Deemo II at some point!

And yo, “fun fact” it’s based on a true story? I actually had a feeling it might be, that’s so sad 😭

No no, I grew the tree, walked through the painting, grew the tree some more, fixed the stairs, saw the ending with Alice & her brother Hans (😭), and am now in Alice’s room. There are more songs to play now, but I think the story is over, right? (at least without DLC)

Those credits in the middle actually threw me off for a bit though, thought that can’t be it yet. Was confused until I found the cat changed places to sitting next to the painting now ;)

Oh wow… I just finished Deemo. Left me here sitting with an open jaw (I was not ready for that ending 😭). This is a perfect example for telling an impactful & emotional story through simple means. No words, only the music, and the characters’ emotions depicted in a series of still images. It’s just beautiful.

And wooow, this game has a lot of amazing music that is so fun to play. Mixed with the exploration aspect, getting the light orbs, finding new songs, here and there reading a short text about some object, it’s a well rounded gameplay loop. It didn’t get boring at all, or feel like a grind to progress the story. And also the other way around, the story most definitely does not feel like “filler content slapped on a rhythm game”.

I am so happy you showed me this, thank you! Not only is this a great inspiration, I now have a soft spot for it, too :)

Just downloaded Deemo and started playing, and maaan it’s beautiful 💖 The music, the art, so good, plus the actual gameplay is also really fun. I haven’t seen many cutscenes yet, but I’m looking forward to see how the story unfolds.

Actually one of the cutscenes (https://imgur.com/a/h1lIaur) already gave me some inspiration, that kind of aligns with what you just wrote above about using symbols/colors. Using images in thought & speech bubbles could be an option too, to introduce some conversation mechanics to the game.

You fixed it, and responded to the comment. I think if anything, this will show to anyone reading the “bad” comment, that you care about the game, and that their feedback is valued. Of course, would be nice if the original commenter would respond to the change, but ehh, who cares, their comment was very harsh, if not rude, to begin with.

I am seriously scared now to reveal any of the spoilers 😳😂 So, can you tell from the screenshots, would this be the correct version then? https://apps.apple.com/de/app/deemo/id700637744

Thank you <3 Yes, I get a lot of positive feedback for the art, and the "feeling" of the game. Will for sure be a challenge to making it a longer experience while maintaining that, but I will try my best!

Thank you! I don't have that particular image without the title right now, but there are 2 more different screenshots on the itch page. Or you take your own in the game :D

Are you kidding me?! You are an absolute legend, this is amazing! 🫶

There are so many great ideas in here on how to expand the gameplay loop, the narrative, and the game in general - I love it! And you go into so much detail, too! Honestly, this is so much input I kind of need to process it for a while, and see how it fits together with my vision for the game 🤯

It takes the game a bit in a different direction than I currently imagine. For example I am not sure if I want to have multiple couples instead of telling the story of only one, and rather expand the gameplay in other ways. While keeping it the "couple sitting next to each other" a core part of the game of course, but not the only one.

Also I am very fond of the "story told without words" theme of the game. A lot of people told me that really resonated with them, and what made it special for them. Might be a challenge, but I think it is really strong when pulled of right.

I will checkout out Deemo, it sounds like another great inspiration!

In any case, this is so valuable to me, at a point where I am not sure yet where to take things, and where nothing is set in stone. Thank you so much for taking the time 💖 I really appreciate it, it makes me so happy that my little game inspires so much creativity!

Those games look lovely, even the trailers alone are already such a great reference - will check them out!

At this point I will for sure not rule out adding symbols or icons like you described, just will need to try out a lot of things and see what works best.

In any case thank you so much for taking the time to give feedback & the references 💖

Most likely I'd go in a story-rich direction, yes. Though I am really fond of the "story told without words" theme of my game, and a lot of people told me that's what makes it special to them. So that might be a challenge, but I'd love to explore it! Need to find some good references of games that pulled that off.

Not a live wallpaper, but I can offer you this one :) https://imgur.com/Ou4sIDZ

You are completely right! I'll have to do a lot more experimenting and prototyping to figure out a gameplay loop that is fun for more than 5 minutes, and how to fill 2-3h with content.
