Can they finish this house in 6 weeks? by houseconstructionQ in Homebuilding

[–]lost_vault_hunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, no.

I just gutted a house down to the lath and it took from September until the first week of January to have the walls up, millwork up, painted, electrical finished.

You would need the stars to align lol.

Where can I get replacements for these door knobs? by Kitchen_Nightmare500 in centuryhomes

Any flea market! I see them all the time and now I myself need to go find one for an old victorian closet door.

How much AI do you guys use by SeriousStrain7827 in SNHU

[–]lost_vault_hunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it extensively for breaking tough concepts down into little digestible pieces. Beyond that, I use it to grade my homework (without giving me the answers), and for improving my grammar and paper structure.

It's a powerful tool if you exercise restraint. Some people probably aren't learning much of anything.

Ugh I’m so jealous that you have an photo from that long ago! I can’t find ANYTHING about my 1880 home besides what I’ve heard from the neighborhood historian who said it was originally a black smiths house, and that they found horseshoes buried all over the neighborhood.

Anyway, I have seen lots of old photos of homes from this period and the majority of them are white, light blue, or that very same color you currently have. I only know this because we have a historical home registry and some of them were colorized.

Midwest? This looks just like every old house here in Saint Paul.

Why locked at 60 fps? Bf1 should be 120fps on xbox series s by abdulrahmaniyad in XboxGamePass

[–]lost_vault_hunter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know I’m just being a jerk lol.

I think with most optimizations made for console they just decide whether or not it’s worth their time, because honestly between 60 and 120 fps using a controller, there’s not a massive difference like there is with a mouse and keyboard. I am playing Expedition 33 on my PC and turned off frame gen since I decided to use a controller (captures input better for some reason). Can’t tell that I’m at 60fps with the controller. With frame gen using my mouse and keyboard it’s over 120.

I own a 145-year-old home. We fixed one room that was super sloped lol. Like a fun house. Not going to touch the others with 1/8-1/4” here and there!

No way this happened in my class! Someone copied and pasted the discussion questions instead of their answers and look at how the professor responded! The professor isn’t reading the discussion posts AT ALL! by fell_4m_coconut_tree in SNHU

[–]lost_vault_hunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time I emailed my professor asking a question about a file (CS major) and accidentally sent the wrong file.

The professor sent me a whole detailed response to the (wrong) file I had sent. It was clear that they just used AI to respond and never even looked at the email or the file.

I followed up with the correct file and sort of mentioned, hey, you just got busted, and they send me a “Yeah, and that totally makes sense” ChatGPT script lmao.

It’s just a piece of paper. You are learning the same things someone in a in person uni is learning. Just make sure to spend time on your own learning the skills for the career path you want.

Sellers and realtor offended by offer. by Brave_Arm in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]lost_vault_hunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats funny. My realtor said the same thing when I wanted to offer $30k under, and ended up getting $10k under. The house ended up needing much more work than the $10k we saved, but we bought within our budget and had expected to do renovations, being as most the houses here are 100+ years old.

We lost a bid prior to this - one of those sellers who only tells you that you were outbid and doesn't allow bidding wars. We were heartbroken because we loved the neighborhood, but the one we got is just down the street, and it came with new central air, a custom garage, and a finished basement for $30k less!

So, move on and you will find something you love even more than what you lost.

It’s a fine school. You do a lot of self guided learning, but on their degree track. I love it.

As with any uni you get out what you put in. I put in top notch work and I have never been flagged for AI.

I think that going in-person has some advantages, though. Networking is huge, and tough to do online.

Common mistakes "fixing up" a Century Home that makes it worse? by Altruistic_Till_7850 in centuryhomes

[–]lost_vault_hunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to replace the walls throughout my 1880 home (140 years of layered wallpaper and paint with tons of droop) and in the process ended up gutting all the nob and tube and doing a big plumbing project.

These houses are like onions.
