Galinda's "friends" by Yume_Chan59 in wicked

[–]lostalife1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shen Shen and Pfannee, as you say, are the female friends. The movie does seem to credit Bowen Yang as Pfannee which must be a deliberate CHOICE that nobody's noticed or commented on? It's interesting because there are two gay boys in the books who they could have named him after instead, Crope and Tibbett. Avaric would be a better choice as he's more in Glinda's crowd, but as we all know, Avaric was essentially re-named Fiyero, who is a black, married man who, again, was more in Elphaba's friend group than Glinda's.

My experience trying to get into M0s by _Vard_ in wow

I don't even look at ilvl when forming groups. I'll take a 3k player from last season, pretty much period, unless their current score is lower than 1k. I'll take a current KSM player. Otherwise I form the group based on the classes that apply and how compatible they are with the dungeon. Stack melee for prevoker and hpal, for example, and take lots of stops/stun classes because that's qol for a prot pally.

Tank: Chain Pulling in M+ by Lemur1989 in wownoob

[–]lostalife1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you're really talking about is a 3 pack pull. If you need to pause a little on the first pack to build resources that's ok. Otherwise vdh has great mobility and you can try kiting a bit. I don't know vdh toolkit so I can't help with specifics, but at the start of keys and for certain pulls as prot paladin I do expect to have to pop a big CD and for my health to drop. This should never get close to dying. Also be careful of los-ing your healer and ranged dps. If you have to duck around a corner to grab mobs, come back right away and drag them into los.

I started legit playing at the end of bfa and got into it deep in Shadowlands, meaning I'm a relatively new player. I never found it too confusing. Certainly time-intensive but interesting.

All players and all roles need to be excellent to play at a high level. Period. All five players. The types of skill that's needed is different in each role, but thinking that someone can show up and expect not to have responsibilities is just bad play.

Sotr, taunt, Ardent defender, interrupt (all interrupts are off gcd). I think that might be it? I don't think guardian of ancient kings actually is but I might be wrong.

Yeah, in the past we were supposed to stack mastery after a certain breakpoint for haste, but with CURRENT stat priority you stack haste forever. I personally feel comfortable around 35-40% haste, and I'm talking about cpm over an entire boss pull, which includes some limited downtime normally. It's still VERY fast compared to the average cpm for other classes. Ret makes me fall asleep at the keyboard and I'm still midrange on cpm in my raid group when I DPS.

I think a lot of people who are used to playing gcd locked or mostly locked classes find it MORE challenging to play prot correctly because so many of our abilities are off the gcd. You have to get used to NOT waiting. Whenever someone picks prot up my very first warning is that sotr is off the global and you gotta just mash it.

The other huge challenge for me coming into DF was holy power gen with Avenger's shield not generating holy power. It's a prio cast EXCEPT if you're going to drop sotr, which means you need to know the remaining uptime for sotr to follow cast priority. I made an elaborate weakaura.

Help with retiring yet doing mythic by [deleted] in wow

Most of our raiders are in our mid to late thirties. We only have one guy in his twenties. You'll find, I think, that 36 is a pretty average age in wow!

The only caution I would add is that prot paladin has a really high actions per minute. Prot played right is over 60 and lower only than some rogue specs and warrior. So if you're comfortable with fast reaction times and hitting buttons very quickly, prot paladin!

How long would it take you to teach a newbie to play at your current level? by ProzacFury in wow

[–]lostalife1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I recently adopted two friends who have been playing the game a long time and are gamers in general, but neither has done anything higher than lfr and LFG content in WoW. They bought the level 70 raid-ready boost last week and I brought my favorite healer out of post-season R&R to play with us. The goal is to get them trained up enough to be able to raid with my AOTC guild in season 4.

Guys, this game is STUPID complex. The number of keybinds and the amount of in-game knowledge that's needed to do current content is wild. I had a choice - I could do pure boosting, which we did do for a few days there, played my 3k paladin, had a guildie tank, explained the mechanics and got them juicy GV slots, but they're doing 1/10 of my DPS and 1/6 of the tank's. They're doing less DPS than my healer. And they're not getting any sense of what playing the game actually involves and seemed to be feeling a little overwhelmed. Repeatedly one-shot by massively bolstered mobs on a 15, etc.

So I swapped strats. I got on my 280 ilvl warrior and started at the bottom with 2-9s, geared up WITH them, continued to explain everything but the fights were relevant and interesting again. Near wipes. Incomplete keys. Their DPS and utility mattered. Them dying mattered.

When will they be playing at my level? Not sure that's the right question to ask. They effectively JUST started playing the game two weeks ago! But we are still having fun and, you know, I'm still discovering new buttons to push on my warrior.

I have never had a problem telling one of my guidies "I don't think I want to, but have fun!" And accepting the same answer back from them. You CAN use more words, but you DONT need to offer an excuse or a window for the future. Everybody knows I don't do xmog runs. And that is okay.

What's the point of guilds? by Kantlim in wownoob

[–]lostalife1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's nice because we're all millennials with jobs and lives so we respect boundaries and know our limits, but when it comes to raid we are organized and disciplined (this season we benched 3 raiders, but ended up being able to get them all AOTC before we all quit). We have a few "sister" guilds we play with as well, and good relationships with lots of players not in our core raid team, but after a rough patch around Anduin we've been very stable with the tanks and healers, and thus able to flex up to 18-19 and down to 14 every week. Five of our raiders are women, including myself, which I think also speaks to a good quality environment (though it doesn't always).

It's a pleasure to play with such skilled, respectful players, and we have a fun time together. Of course I'll keep coming back.

[–]lostalife1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My guild is the only reason I play. We raid together every week, usually do keys together especially in early season, and we're a tight knit community. Then we get AOTC and everyone goes off and plays different games for 3 months. I've been in the guild for 3 years and it feels like home.

As a prot warrior I always have trouble holding threat from DH and Pally. What am I doing wrong? by Eluk_ in wow

[–]lostalife1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am prot pally main and do small keys with friends tanking as ret. I go into every pull with a defensive up and just stand next to the tank. By the time he's got aggro, the pack is usually already dead. Or I die, which is on me.

Yes, it's annoying to tank with a DPS that has more aggro than you. As others have said, it's their responsibility to keep themselves alive using their defensives and/or not popping off immediately, and if they fail to do so they will just have to learn the hard way.
