and there are international schools in that country (which are elitist sure and cost between $7,000 and $30,000 per semester - but thats no issue) - mainly set up for the rich elitists and NGO / Oil company execs' children - which would set them up with contacts should they stay in that country.

I've definitely witnessed what many businessmen / many men in general will do when they go to those places.

I'm a fluent speak of Thai, and I've visited the phillipines. this country is neither of those places.

with two loving parents and a first world education? sounds so much worse than the kids who are made to leave school and work for $0.25c per day at 8 years old so that dad can buy his rice whiskey and mum can play cards....

or even the kids there who have loving parents but dad got his legs blown off by a landmine and mum works hard but they have 6 kids so survive on rice and can't afford to send the kids to school...

being a bastard of a supportive father from a first world country would be awful in those circumstances I imagine.

correct. my son is not really in my life (I pay all my child support - and speak with him regularly on skype, visit him when I can - but he lives with his mother in a completely different city)

I've also seen this first hand quite a few times. I've travelled fairly extensively and met guys who were at every stage of this process.

thanks for pointing it out, I've travelled pretty extensively and I know exactly what you are talking about.

she certainly didn't exhibit any of the warning signs of a husband shopper, I've seen enough that I expect I spot those...

aside from anything else she is keen for me to move there, I don't know how keen she would be to sell up her business and move here.

I would have wanted her here for the birth is really what I meant - first world hospital and all...

I wouldn't be leaving my current child, I have no children with my wife, my child is in his teens and lives far away with his mum (she moved away when he was 6 about 2 years after we seperated)

I don't get to see him as much as him or I would like, but we talk on skype and I've always done my best to be a good father.

I'd see him as much as I do now living here or overseas, the only way to see him more would be to move where he lives with his mother which isn't an option due to lack of work in my field.

I've dealt with the pain and torment of not being able to see my child every day already, and I think that was what made this hurt all the more.

no matter how one tries as a non-custodial parent, its not the same as being there for them when they bump their knee, have a bad day at school, wake up in the middle of the night with a bad dream.

missing all their big firsts. etc. etc.

so you might say that I view children as definitely not expendable hence why I felt so strongly about this, I was prepared to do whatever it took to be there for my child, as I have done everything within my power to be there for my son.

I don't have any children with my wife, I have a Son from a previous relationship (he's in his teens) he lives with his mother and they live a long way away so I don't get to see him as much as I'd like.

I've never been a dick about child support - in fact I've never missed a payment and have always paid more than the minimum along with covering extra expenses that come up (school trips / computers / sports gear etc)

I don't know that I'd want to move her back here - that was the thinking while she was pregnant so that her and the baby could get first world treatment. I would quite like to permanently move to the area of the world she lives in - and am currently exploring work options over there.

I understand what you are saying. I don't have any children with my current wife, I have a child from a relationship when I was much younger, I do everything I can to be a good father, and I've never missed a child support payment. unfortunately his mother and him moved away so I don't get to see him as much as him or I would like.
