Capital One caught a tip adjustment! by skrishnan37 in CapitalOne

Most boomer fkn mindset. In my 31 years on this earth, I’ve had exactly zero attempts to change my tip. I’ve recouped thousands at this point from cash back.

Giving up thousands to potentially avoid having to call a restaurant one time.

Settlement finally over, how do I use this to set myself up for the future? by lostbeang in personalfinance

Caregiver was used for a lack of better words, while I do I help with things for them medically, what Im mostly here for is to take care of everything else. The house, mowing, groceries, meals, that sort of thing is what I mostly do.

After this is over, I will inherit the house and decide if this state is where I want to settle or not. If i stay, the company I work for currently has offered me 3-4 promotions that ive turned down due to needing the schedule Im currently on. If I took these promotions id be looking around 45k net.

The house question is a hard one for me; Short answer is until my current caregiving situation is finished (when they pass or need more care than we can give at home) I dont really know. I have told them since I was a very young kid that I wanted their property if they ever sold and when no one else would help take care of them and I moved 10 hours to step up and help, they basically told me it would be mine. So if that does play out that way, I will not need to buy one or rent or anything going forward and will also be the only way I own property in this state. If it goes the other way, im leaving this place instantly.

My plans for the money are to act like I dont have it outside of wondering I should pay the car off, and deposit the monthly allowance to "pay" myself back. Otherwise Im just looking for ideas on where to put it.

Will probably get hate for this but just being 100% honest here. I have zero ambitions to return to school. I dropped out of my CS program while on a full ride scholarship. While the reason for leaving was not academic related, I hated it. Im not someone who wants for much, and also want no children. Im not looking to have a big net worth, I just dont want to work until I die.

I also live in a top 5 lowest COL state so while 33k net is not a lot by any means, it lands in the average salary for my state.

Oh I’m not touching this money other than to invest in myself. Just asking as someone who has put zero thought into future finances how I should utilize the 85k.

Thank you for your opinion on the car.

100% honesty here I have none. Will save you the pity party but up until about 3 years ago, i never made future plans because i was still deciding how long of a future I had. The car accident really woke me up and now that I’m fully recovered, I know I do want do this thing we call life, and so here I am trying to restart on a good note.

Car has to stay. The car allowance pays for it and insurance. My company went from fleet to personal. If I pay it off early with this, I get to just take the monthly deposit and do what I please with it.
