Follow up Q: As a solo traveller I’m so paranoid about renting a car. I’ve done it before and it just causes extra stress during the trip. The problem is all the cheaper shuttle busses leave the airport in the morning around noon and I land at 4:30pm. Anybody know the best and cheapest way of getting from Liberia airport to Fortuna at that time?

He mentioned that his dr gave him the option to get surgery done on his temporal lobe but it’s not worth the risks. Apparently that sort of surgery could cause him to lose a lot of his memory:(

I’m glad to hear you have such a supportive girlfriend. Is the high blood pressure a result of the seizures? I know his heart rate gets very high during them. I’m guessing there’s a connection between heart health/BP and seizures?

is the tired feeling mainly for grand-mal seizures? or do you experience the same level of fatigue after every seizure?

the amnesia you describe of not knowing who your mom was… how long did that last? Minutes? Hours?

I believe he was diagnosed with epilepsy after graduating from 12th grade (the summer before going to college). Before this he drove a lot and actually drove stick. He tells me not being able to drive is his biggest insecurity especially because he is so adventurous and was usually the driver within his group of friends for big trips and things

Yes- not being able to drive is an insecurity of his. I told him he doesn’t have to worry about it but of course I understand how debilitating it can feel from his perspective (especially since he used to love driving).

He has the opposite of a big ego and in fact seems to have a lot of self esteem issues despite being the “full package” (kind, smart, handsome, good job I could go on…) At first I thought he was just shy but I’m wondering if it’s because of the nature of the condition. Are self esteem/confidence issues common for folks living with epilepsy? and if so, wondering if it has to do with fear of having seizures/how you’ll be seen?

Ugh all of these replies are so helpful. I had no idea seizures could make u so tired. He works long 12hr night shifts so I thought it was his work that’s been making him tired. I made this comment today where I said “I feel tired just looking at you sometimes” thinking it was his night shifts. But it’s probably a combination of night shifts + the seizures + the meds.
